This is a pretty good primer on what the future holds... For all type of batteries...

They can recover over 90% of the materials... And they are better than new...

The only EV problem is the US manufacturers cannot produce them...

Look at how pitiful GM is with 26 vehicles in 3rd Q 2021...

For EV's to take off we need a breakthrough with battery technology. Being dependent on China for cobalt is no better than depending on Russia for oil.

China is not a major miner of cobalt .... DRC is major producer...

Next 9 producers produce 25% of the DRC.... LIfeph batteries use 0% Cobalt..

https://www.google.com/search?q=Cobalt+producing+ ... vs=1#tts=0

We are years behind China and their car companies will put the US producers out

of business if they don't speed up EV'S. Tesla is the only competitive company....

Correct - they are a major REFINER of cobalt.

One thing to remember is that we don't need cobalt to make batteries we can use

LiFePO⁴ which is much cheaper and can stand more abuse.

All utility generator are adding batteries to store energy for use when demand exceeds

supply and energy will come from many forms as they are developed. All sources of

energy will complete the whole pie and some will fall off as new sources are added to

the mix. In June 2022 PJM will seek bids for 2026 electric supply , that's how far out the

planning is because of the long lead times needed to build infrastructure.

NY has right now ~30% of all energy from hydro power and ~50% natural gas ,

PA has ~40% natural gas and~20% coal, ISO NE has about 51% natural gas generation

and will be most affected by a rise in fossil fuel costs.

These carbon based energy will be replaced as soon as possible similar to the automobile

replacing the horse in the 1920's.
