Good darts, Don. Looks like a magic wand was waved over it. Helped by a healthy sprinkling of gold. I'm sure it's good to have it back.

Is that an 8ft box? You dont see too many single cab 8 ft box around anymore. I had to settle for a 6.5 Ft box. Couldnt find a single cab 8ft.

True, but I've got an '86 Grand Marquis with 294k miles on the ORIGINAL driveline, plus a '93 Volvo 940, also all original. The Marquis still runs on the original in-tank electric fuel pump! Both those cars are very trouble free. The worst is the exhaust systems available for the Volvo that rust out after 18 months. I went stainless and fixed that problem. The Marquis gives me zero headaches. Owned it 20 years now!
My '07 Silverado that I bought brand new has had 50% of its driveline fail before and around 100k miles, not to mention 1,000 other failures and annoyances. Side by side, the differences are GLARING. It is a complete piece of *censored* front to back! Some things are great, but most aren't. Thing has cost me a FORTUNE over the past 16 years.
I'll never buy ANYTHING built in the 21st century ever again. I don't have time to be constantly fixing low-bidder junk parts. I've had more downtime in the Silverado than with the 2 classics COMBINED.

You should have just junk it. Sometimes you have to walk away.I had a toyota tacoma with a dozens of problems too,fortunately there are stilll many people who think they are made of gold.

If there was a company who built baseline vehicles with no frills but with the intention of lasting half a millennia they would be overrun by business and wouldn't have to worry about "making money from return customers" because there would be enough people ditching the main line companies. Problem is the big boys have gotten real cozy providing gold plated plastic products and without competition- who's to stop them? I would imagine all the stipulations in regards to emissions, alleged safety, and code are actually what steer them to make products that won't last long. I might be off on some of that haha.

Hindsight is always 20/20. In too deep now to go back. I have to run it 40 years minimum to make my inadvertent investment worthwhile. Going to be a challenge ... it's been a mountain of work to get it to year 16!
Yeah, even Toyota has slid downhill. I think all the manufacturers got together and agreed to make everything junk so one brand doesn't stand out as better than the rest, and they can all reap the benefits. That's my theory as to why GM bought Saab, and FoMoCo bought Volvo, and ran both straight into the dirt. Those were some of the best built cars ever, that resisted rust better than any in history. 1995 was the end of that run. Saab is gone forever, and Volvo is just a name - not even remotely the same car as it was 30 years ago.

Frame not rotten on that grand marquis? i have seen the demise of many panthers to the frame rot. I don't drive mine in the winter for that reason.SMITTY wrote: ↑Sun. Nope, we've only driven it 3 months of one winter in the 20 years we've owned it. The bumper rotted out just from that. Also formed a few small blisters in the paint around the vehicle, and a few rust spots underneath the trunk. Overall it's damn near perfect.

HA! Amen to that! I feel the same way, only the age is increasing. I want nothing built after 1995, but preferably before 1973.
