Surely it does if we are talking about development. As far as gasoline the first one predates the model T by more than 2 decades.

The technology is here, while it can't fully replace gas/diesel there is a demand for it and that technology will only improve. It's going to take a significant chunk of the market.
Using your argument, electric predates gasoline. So why didn't it catch on ? Or why not steam with its high energy output and water and various fuels, so easily available ?

Same answer as today,.... FAR LESS time it takes to store enough energy and being able to spend more time traveling than it takes to store that energy.

Because fossil fuels have a tremendous amount of energy density. The battery technology is catching up. Once that occurs and the infrastructure to support it are in place (specifically fast charging stations) there isn't going to be a reason to own a gas powered car.

I'm not delusional in believing this is going to happen now but it's not that far off either. As I already mentioned we don;t know what technologies are around the corner. I mentioned that company that expects to have a commercially viable fusion reactor in about a decade. If that is to happen it's bye bye fossil fuels, wind mills, solar panels and anything else across the board.

When Richard said fossil fuel had a lot of energy per unit he hit the reason they

became dominant in transportation.Battery technology was not highly developed.

They have a very small fuel supply in KW's ,but are able to utilize it very efficiently,

over 100 mpg in gasoline terms.

Gasoline has ~114,000 btu per gallon ,electric has 3412 btu per KW.

So a 65 KWHr battery pack has 222,000 btu ,less than 2 gallons of gasoline, but can travel

over 250 miles on a full charge, so about 125 mpge. Chevy Bolt EV.

Fossil cars waste more energy than used for the vehicle ,some waste 75% of the fuel.

Newer battery technology could produce cars with over 500 mpge in the near future. But the

battery will probably be reduced in size because this extreme range is not needed in 90+ of the

driving most people do and get a 50% reduction in battery weight.

The big hit on the efficiency of electric cars is the production of the power. Once again the newest combined cycle plants have optimal efficiency around 60%. "Older" gas and coal plants are in the 30 to 40% range and given the capital investment to build them they aren't going anywhere for many decades. Older is in quotes because they can have lifespans of 60 to 70 years.

Intermittent power production from renewables exacerbate the efficiency issue with both the plants and transmission.

No one ever mentions the total carbon footprint of a battery powered car, or simply EV batteries in general.

My guess is it’s a lot bigger than producing a ICE powered car over its entire life cycle.

At least you can recycle ICE cars. What do you do with an EV that's half battery? And very toxic at that.

What the EV pushers don't want you to know,....

The cost of the production of electricity is well studied... Here's a report ...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_of_electricity_by_source

As far as the total carbon output of vehicles ...

https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-51977625

You can make your own analysis.... These are complicated subjects and

cannot be sumarized in a brief format.

Sure, cherry pick a few articles. My lie o meter is on high. As noted, you are in other forums with the same crap. I believe you are a paid shill. The change the worlders are finding there is money to be made by promoting a certain way of thinking. My wife has a niece in Maine that has found the yellow brick road after being active in local to state politics and is now being groomed by ? money to be a white Stacey Abrams. Same size and all.....who is funding it?
