This may be model to give some people the opportunity to be

able to afford an EV.

https://cleantechnica.com/2021/02/08/electrify-am ... eyre-free/

This could also be made as a carport for EV's at your residence , then

you would also enjoy free travel for your daily use.

It says the money may have came from a lawsuit. If I lived near one of those free ones I might even consider an electric car myself as it sounds permanent free. Im thinking it will work like NG. Get everyone on board with charging stations everywhere then raise the prices and make them wish they had a gas guzzling 1980 Bronco instead, lol

Good link Barney. Some decent info in it.

Free, or not, Texas just showed us the reality of going green, that some have been ignoring the proof that's been happening in California and other areas for many years,..... and getting worse each year.

Here's your "future" Big B.

Someone do the math for me.... How long will it take four solar panels to charge a 43 KW battery? They mention it is NOT a fast charger....but they don't say how slow it is. My gut says this is a complete fail. The average electric car has perhaps a 32KW battery. Four 250 watt panels in full sunlight will make a kilowatt each hour.... so.... 32 hours to charge a car? Oh me, oh my.... that's IF the sun shines all night!

So Volkswagen's fine paid for 60 charging ports in just one State that is predominately in the lower latitudes of the country (solar watts per square foot is directly related to solar rays angle), and gets a lot of sunshine,..... and that should work for the rest of us ?

And, have you figured out how much that solar "carport" would actually cost to get "free charging" ?

Or, how many would be willing to work nights so that their EV car can be charging for "free" when the sun is shining ?

This is like the "free" energy from those stove fans that work on stove heat. Like with EV's there's a cost they never compare. I had one of those "free energy" fans and it cost me over $120.00 shipped. After it died, rather than spend more money to send it back to Canada and hope the factory could fix it, I figured out the cost of running a 6 inch electric fan of about the same CFM. At the cost of my local electric rates, and running the fan 24/7 for the nine months that I use that stove, it would take about 30 years for that "free" heat to start actually being free.

I don't know what the output rating is, but my electrical engineer brother has two solar panels on his live-on sail boat. They are about 2 feet by 3 feet and take up a lot of space in the stern. Those two panels combined can only put out enough power to charge the batteries so that he doesn't have to run the engine when they are not tied up where they can get shore power. But the panels can't produce enough power to handle the load of the boat's electrical system demands. And the boat stays in Florida and the Caribbean Islands, where they get far more direct sunlight energy per square foot than most of the country.

Stop the real world analogies SB....it is obvious to the save the planet crowd that he is not doing something right.

Most of the 2'x3' panels are in the range of 250-300 Watts with 35 volt output (about 7-8 Amp output). you then series and/or parallel the panels to get the most voltage or current from them, Depending on your system voltage (12, 24, 36 or 48 volts). your charge controller would adjust accordingly to keep the batteries (or vehicle) charged. If you have a good charge controller , it can reduce excess voltage and produce more current. depending on how many panels you have and efficiency of the controller, size of battery banks, etc...it could take a while to charge.
