I have said this for years. The department of transportation needs to standardise the batteries used in electric cars.

Make them so they can be changed automatically by machine. Then the battery isn't "part" of the car and the cost can be spread out on a per charge basis by all users.

This solves several problems the long recharge times, eventual battery failure, collection of road tax, ect

As for longevity of electric motors....trust me they last a long time I have seen DC crain motors that are pushing 50, stepper motors that are roughly 40. I have replaced bearings in a 70 year old 3 phase 5 to motor. Industrial items are tough.
