The U.S. has to get in line. German parliament gave VW the dirty end of the stick about 3 weeks ago.

I think it all should be waived by Trump and the epa standard lowered so we can get the TDI back.

I know of the VW dieselgate charges and that most or all were pulled back, owners paid and vehicles modified or crushed. Were owners required to turn them in for $$ ? I suppose that if there was a lien holder on a car that might have also leveraged a turn in. Not a diesel guy but I recall many wondering how VW was the only one not going to urea injection.

The US uses a fleet average, you can make all the large vehicles you want with higher pollution as long you are also making a lot of small vehicles with low pollution. A small diesel would have same pollution as a larger more expensive vehicle so there is no place for them in the US market.
