I have been thinking about getting a new Toyota Tacoma for a while. They hold value so well that unless it's ten years old, it's better to buy new. My plan is to get either the SR5 or the TRD Sport with crew cab and the 6' foot bed. I've seen a few 2019's with $5k off sticker and 2020's with $3k off sticker being advertised.

I know that all Tacoma's hold value but is one trim level better than another at holding a high resale value?

Thanks

If you can find a Prando version you hit gold.

My mom has a 2011 Tacoma that she bought new, it has been a wonderful truck and is still worth quite a bit. I think it is more about options rather than trim level. e.g. 4x4 and towing package matter more than leather seats and fancy wheels. The real fancy models depreciate more.

Holden, I would love a Toyota Hilux but they are not available here. Importing would be too expensive.

Rob, thanks for the feedback. I agree, keep it simple.

I have a 2004 Tacoma extended cab SR5. 100k miles, my brother bought it from an older who could no longer drive at 30k miles. Mint condition all the way around. My brother covered all the seats to preserve them and covered the rugs on the floor to preserve. I bought it at 78k basically in the same condition he got it. It was my son's first truck. My son ran it up to 100k, before he bought a newer full size GMC. He kept it clean an spot shined basically. The issue now is that the fenders on the bed have started to rust and that's the only issue. It books for $5500. I'm going to sell it for between $4000 and 4500. I want to sell it fairly quickly as the longer vehicle sits the more that goes wrong do to the lack of running. Overall, Toyota is great.

I looked at a 2004 (1st gen) TRD Off-Road crew cab over the weekend. I would like to get a Tacoma for my 17 year old son. It looked great in pictures but the frame was rotted. Patience is key!
