Another sinking boat .....

“Mazda’s engineers have also tuned the torque delivery of the MX-30’s electric motor to be less frenetic than is often the case with EVs, reasoning that they want the MX-30 to feel less like a dramatic change from a typical internal combustion engine vehicle.”

Some comments even suggest putting some petrol in to make people feel at home with the smell...

That reminds me of the Detroit thinking in early attempts at mass selling compact cars in the 80's. CAFE related, sold at losses, always, with production in the millions. Ford made the '81 to maybe early 90's Escort's IRS, but set the camber so that they understeered terribly ( and wore out tires very very quickly). They didn't want to scare long time LTD owners with something that had lively handling.

This link is old, but there's an aftermarket to get racy engine sounds in a Tesla or muffled turbo ICE. I know there are some cars that come with the engine soundtrack from the factory.

Some years back, I was very nearly run down, several times, in a city parking garage that I had to park in. At quitting time, those nurses would jump in their Priuses and back out of a space without looking. The Priuses didn't activate their ICE engine at slower speeds. A real EV pedestrian hazard when operated by some demographics.

I think it is the smart thing to do. Safer operation and far less stress on components.
