Porsche 944+Chevy V8

Toss away the Chevy motor and put in a turbine engine. Power it with coal.

COAL POWER! I remember that video.

Its Low lead fuel, not really lead, substitute formulas. 100 octane. No different than pump gas except its vapor points for higher altitudes which you'll never notice in car. other than no pinging at heavier throttle loads.

100 LL av has has plenty of lead.

GETTING READY FOR PORSCHE CARLISLE NEXT SATURDAY!!!

Today we did an oil change and a front end nut and bolt check. Getting ready to go to the Porsche swap meet at Carlisle PA next weekend. If you are going maybe I'll see ya there!

The nut and bolt check revealed a slightly loose left wheel bearing and loose strut top bushings. I gave the wheel bearing a tweak. The strut top bushings will get replaced with camber plates. That will make adjusting camber a breeze. The bushings were good when I put the suspension together but 32 year old rubber didn't hold up to the beating that the stiffer suspension and the V8 gave it. Roll the video Son!

We Have Reached A Tunning Milestone!
For some reason this engine has always run to rich at idle. I've tried a lot of things to fix this over the past year but nothing helped. It is set to 14.5 AFR for idle but it bounces all over from 12 to 15. This morning I came up with the idea of dropping the fuel pressure from 60 to 50. THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING!
Now it idles in the mid 14's and makes noticeably more power all over the rev range. And, the car is a Whole Lot easier to drive at slow speeds. I don't know why it doesn't like 60 PSI of fuel pressure. That is what it is designed to run at. Oh well.

Good detective work, Don! It really sounds crisp.

This is way apples to bananas. I knew a guy that put a two-two barrel carb setup and manifold on a somewhat worked over slant 6. It was a kit setup with electric fuel pump conversion, etc. He had a problem with bogging badly, flooding, etc. Kit maker insisted that the FP ought to be set at 10 lbs., which he did. Everyone told him it should be around 3-4 lbs. with those carbs. He finally lowered it to 4 lbs. and all fell into place.

Interesting. It seems the injectors can't property control the fuel delivery at idle with the higher fuel pressure. Does your fuel system use a return line? It is important to make sure you don't run lean on the top end after this change.

Yes, it's a bypass system with the regulator in the return line. And the regulator is referenced to intake manifold vacuum.

It's not just at idle, it makes noticeably more power all the way up the power band now. And now it doesn't run rich all the time. It runs a whole lot better than it ever did now.

It is possible that this primitive system isn't capable of controlling injectors this large. The engine is an L77 from a flex fuel cop car so the injector GPM is much higher than the gas only L76 engine. The L76 is what I selected in the "Engine Type" menu since there was no L77 option. I'm off to the Carlisle swap meet in the rain!
