Couple of times I got someone to push down on the spring-loaded plunger that feeds power up into the wire cap while I spun the drive gear. Guaranteed to make them dance and curse !coaledsweat wrote: ↑Sun. May. 26, 2019 6:59 pmWhen I was a kid, we bought a Vertex mag for a big block Chevy powered altered we were running. My buddy was walking out with it spinning the gear drive at the bottom. It had one plug hanging out of the wires swinging in the air and it would produce a loud snap and a very visible spark in broad daylight just from a quick spin. THE PLUG WAS NOT EVEN GROUNDED! I was sold on it then.
Got caught in a driving rain with the mag and suddenly it felt like the engine had torn loose from it's motor mounts. Found a carbon track that came out one wire hole of the cap, across the face and down another wire hole. That arc that burned that carbon track was over 5 inches total length. New cap was $16.00 which in those days was more than a new cap, rotor, points and condenser for a Delco, so since I also need the car to get to work, the Vertex came out and the Delco went back in. Don't have the car anymore but I still have the Vertex.
