Electric bikes are nothing new and at one time I even thought about one for my wife, I prefer to pedal. All I can say is that is one God awful looking bike they made.
These are from an actual bike maker.

Trek has nice line with higher end components but unless you are pounding through the woods on one they are pretty expensive for the average rider. You can buy a lot of bike for $400 to $500 even if you are occasionally going to take it out in the woods.gaw wrote: ↑Thu. Feb. 14, 2019 11:22 pmThese are from an actual bike maker.

Surprising facts about Richard S. ep 202733, I owned some of the first mountain bikes on the market mid/late 80's including a Bridgestone MB-1 which at the time was one of the best you could buy. I was also a bike mechanic for few years in my late teens. Just put a bunch of them together last Spring for my Buddy who owns the hardware store. Haven't changed much and what has changed is pretty much common sense except the nutless headsets.
Watch the Lightning and Zero Bikes go like hell...

GM just bailed out of CARS in a big way cuz they claim they CANT make money on small cars. How the heck are they going to make money on bicycles. They are spoiled by the HUGE markups on trucks and SUVs.

They have to remember that percentages are misleading, it's the dollars that count.
If you sell a $1,000,000 machine and make 2% you have made $200k. A 20% markup on a $20k item is only $400.
Of course smaller items can be produced more, sell more, economies of scale, etc. Should be interesting.
Those motorcycles are interesting. Any idea of ballpark price?
Regenerative braking would be essential in this part of PA to make up on the downside of the mountains. Otherwise the range would be about 8 miles. LOL.

I have found the electric motorcycles to be very intriguing and I absolutely get why the sportbike/superbike market is the target but at least zero is looking at the supermoto/scrambler market which would be a good daily driver.
As for GM and bicycles... they're so far behind they'll never catch up...

That self driving bike thing was a hilarious April Fools day joke a few years ago!
Maybe GM wants to sell bikes into the Billion + Asian market. Have you seen the pics of the junkyards with billions of bikes piled around... Nice impact on the environment.

I'd be quite happy on one of those Lightening bikes but the $39K price tag kind of puts it out of my paygrade. They had test drives a few years ago of the Zero bikes here in VT. Didn't have time to take one for a ride but as quiet as my Triumph is, I'd take the ultra quiet of an electric bike without skipping a beat.
Can you imagine something that weighs 300+pounds with 200HP and instant at any speed 168 lb/ft of torque? I'd giggle like a school girl all the time riding it as well.

At speed it shouldn't be much trouble since the rotation of the wheels keep it balanced, you might see an auto drive feature for the highway. The issues start at slow speeds, the computer can't control the rider and that will pose problems for balancing it.
Tesla says that self driving (limited) will here this year... But will the laws?????
