So, following the lead of the leader of men, I put in some ethanol free gas and after God knows how long it was sitting there I thought what the hell, I will see if it starts. Yes, when it was sidelined I had used the same gas with a little MMO. It started right up on the electric starter. I will now put chains on it as I can use it to bring rice coal homer buckets to the house if we get buried in snow. Amazingly, it sounded just fine and so I ran it around the farm and it is real muddy. Try as I might I can't find anything wrong with it. So tomorrow is a 50* day and I may even treat it to some soap and water. Love those Hondas. .... indestructible.

Success. I was able to sneak in a fuel filter, and got the freshly rebuilt carb dialed in. For some reason I had to back the pilot screw for the idle mixture out a full turn more than the book setting, but that is very close to where it was when I started. No more leaking out of the over flow, and the machine feels very responsive.

Here we are almost two years later, and the TRX300 is still running great. I actually got to take it on a few 10 mile rides this summer and enjoyed riding it quite a bit. Keeping fresh gasoline in it is the key to success.
Recently I had a man from Vermont doing some work on our house, and he commented on the 300 when it was parked outside one day while he was here. I told him about the issues I had with the gas going bad, and he said the same thing happened to him. He had a 2000 Foreman 400 at home that had not seen much use in the last few years, and now it would not run. I offered to take a look and he brought it the next day. What a nice machine, only 130 hours on it!
I cleaned the carb, changed all the fluids, filled it with treated 91 non-ethanol, and took it for a ride this evening. It seems to be geared lower than my 300, and is a real workhorse. I will be sad to see it go.

Those Foreman’s were fantastic for heavy work, I ran a few and they sure were smooth. I had an ‘04 Rancher for a few years, a little smaller but the Foreman’s were just too big and gaudy for what I was doing here.
That Rancher had electric shift... I sure enjoyed that a lot. I miss it at times.

Ain't that the truth! I run all E0 gas in everything at home with stabilizer in the storage cans. Seems good for a year or more. I'm a believer in MMO. Many call it snake oil, but I've had great results with it cleaning valves and combustion chambers in vehicles and equipment over time. It's not likely to clean clogged carb jets, etc., but it may keep them clean if you use E0.
