Not just Mercedes, a lot of the German cars are way too expensive to maintain.

Melissa's VW Passat wagon - $2500.00 to replace a worn clutch disk. VW would not sell just the disk, you have to buy the entire clutch/throwout bearing/pressure plate group. Then take the motor out to change it.

A 25 cent nylon clip broke holding the passenger front window glass to it's regulator. VW parts department won't sell just a replacement clip. They wanted $180.00 for the entire door panel and window guides to fix it. In 45 minutes I made and installed a sheet metal clip that can't break.

The stepson went though a phase of getting caught up in that, "quality German engineering" garbage. But after a couple of years he tired of the high cost of keeping his BMW on the road and sold it. He then bought an Audi. Same thing, the costs for keep it running were ridiculously high. He sold it and took a loss on the payments that turned out to be cheaper than if he kept paying to keep it on the road. Friend who was a long-time German cars owner that includes a few Mercedes, Audi's, and VW's, after getting screwed by them all, his Jetta buy-back was the straw that broke the camel's back. He's now driving a Honda.

Paul

windy he also appeared a little to preoccupied with the rectum but allow him some slack with cultural differences. I think the info is excellent. Most car reviewers are useless. If I trust him and I do, Camrys or AWD Subarus are a good NE choice perhaps. Trucks and big SUVs as the need arises. I consider my 7 year old Hyundai Genesis that I bought for $!0,000 to be the best car I ever owned.

People think I am rich as I paid $4000 for a stove to keep warm. Watch David as he buys a $60,000 hydrogen car only to lose $59,995 in depreciation as technology changes or that one station is turned into a refugee warming and sanctuary center this winter. Now that's serious coin. I demand a ride. Driving to South CA to fill up will be tedious. Brooklyn and MA will follow CT. ... now we are in danger of a little thread drift.

I have owned two “mechanical” MB diesels and three “mechanical” VW diesels. All had 250K+ miles when I moved on. Bar none, they were the most reliable, easy to work on and CHEAP to maintain cars I have ever owned.

Buying anything for the MB truck I had was outrageous. The cans for the air brakes for example, might be $100 for regular truck, they were $500....

It's not just foreign vehicles, I was looking at a used Caddy once but then I started investigating the costs for parts.

Those Mercs were pre 1992.
I had a 180D at college (0-60 time was about three weeks) and a 300D about 20 years ago - fabulous and ran on soybean oil mostly (in the summer). Then came 1992 and the slant rads and everything after that was crappola.

More mysterious than when Nibaru will arrive, people will then go and buy a caddy again. Same with MB, BMW and Audi - go figure.

A friend of mine 2 years ago was charged $13000 for an Audi engine replacement which he could not afford. Now he has a new to him Audi that is making strange noises from the engine. He came over to asked my opinion. Blood ran down my tongue.
