God, I hope this is not my future in the snowy NE. Also the potential disaster of running out of juice as he freezes to death by the roadside. 128km round trip and three charges the young man is exhausted when he limps home. Yep, I am lining up for this technology. :D

Uhh.....,No Thanx !

A vehicle is a tool, get the right one for the job at hand. When Propulsion is dependable,You have a working tool. When range of that Propulsion is correct, then,You'll have a working tool. Hype and Fads don't cut it. In this Country, even in Our Shabby Decline, there's no real good reason this is still an issue,as far as my creaky old butt's concerned !

Should have taken his truck. Would have been a 3-4 hour adventure instead of 12.

Just drove back from Atlanta. One ten minute stop for gas. My ass and legs however required more frequent attention.

He only has a 58 mi range car. My EV car has unlimited range - its a Volt ...

You don't want to hear what it took to get a daytime running light that went out working again (4 trips to dealer-4 weeks) ... stoopid computors.

I have unlimited range to but my top speed is 4mph. When my running lights dimmed I refilled from a fresh can of calcium carbide - no problems.

Just bought a Chevy Bolt ev and love it,charge at night and every morning have a 238 Mile range. The travel long distance

infrastructure is being built out now by many companies and when completed that type of travel will as easy as an ICE car.

In 10 years most cars will be electric as predicted by many organizations.

Even racing cars....... http://www.epecentre.ac.nz/research/eea%20confere ... ze%202.pdf

http://www.epecentre.ac.nz/research/eea%20confere ... 0Range.pdf

There are a lot of experiment reports on these pages and they say ~2025 a large share of vehicles will be electric.

The Stanley Co thought steam was the future in 1904 along with another Co whose name I forgot who thought electricity was the way to power cars. I know Leno has one. Good luck with your guesses. Before EVs attain 20% penetration of the market we will need a chit load more coal power stations and a new transmission grid.

Folks who have fallen for the electric car is our future crap have forgotten....
Most electric power generating plants are already maxed + many are outdated & need to be replaced.

When nuclear power generation was introduced, they said electric would become free for the public.
Has anyone thought of what amount of demand there will be for electric to charge all the cars & of course all the over-the-road electric big-rigs ??
Still think electric generation charges will stay at today's prices ??
Seems like the electric vehicle folks have forgotten that saving gas will cost at the electric meter.
Electric vehicles will continue to remain a special use in ideal conditions vehicle.

I read that for 25 % of the US auto fleet to be plug in EV would require a several fold increase in power generation. Each EV that replaces a gas car draws about one third of what an average home does. Some wags claim that neighborhood blackouts will result from overloaded transformers. Maybe if all computers and servers vanished, that would free up a huge amount of power. ( Ain't happenin'). We'll have to do something since there hasn't been a new oil refinery built since 1976.

Calculate how much fuel is burned to propel vehicles...
Convert to electrical equivalent...
use just 10 percent of that number...
See how the grid collapses...

we have NO charging stations around here, 2 at the local mall, but thats about it.

I'll keep my Ford CMax, hybrid. not a plug in, but does decent on gas/electric. On a good day traveling , i've gone 550+ miles on a tank. highest mpg was 47.5. Can't complain.
