And they will be shutting down their Focus factory in Mexico. Build it in a market where similar cars likely sell for $3,000 and sell it in the USA for $16,000. It's the American way! Unbelievably, Ford has the audacity to proudly boast that no US jobs will be lost as a result of this move to China (which builds more cars than does the USA).

I hope the owners manual is printed in China too, in that half assed English translation that always makes me smile. That way you get the full experience.

My daughter (who lived and worked in central mainland China for half a year several years back) has coined it 'Chinglish'.

This move by Ford merely cracks open the door.

Prediction: Within a decade all currently US/Canada/Mexico mfg'd cars and trucks will be made in China.

Does anyone remember US made TV's, appliances, computers, radios, electronic devices in general, plastic goods, steel, etc...?

Why should cars/trucks be special?

China is the car market now. Buick sells 8 cars in China for every one they sell in the US.

I have never understood...
why build cars for china in the us...
you build where the labor is suited for the selling price...
and build close to your material source...
avoiding shipping costs across the vast oceans...

In 10 years they will only need a fraction of the workforce we have today to build them. Automation will do almost all of it, so perhaps there will be no need to move production and increase freight, lead time, etc.

It's a win/lose situation. If we raise the prices on currently cheep foreign goods, we create jobs. But at the same time we effectively devalue our currency, since:
1) Foreign made goods will all cost more due to import taxing (or tariffs).
2) US made goods are inherently much more expensive, and that's why we (currently) buy foreign to begin with.

Bottom line: If everything suddenly costs much more, then effectively and for all practical purposes the US Dollar is worth less.

It becomes very :? , we move our car production off shore & just about every foreign car maker now at least assembles their cars for here here. The workers get paid as well or almost as do the domestic workers & they adhere to all our laws so I can only guess where the big difference is! ;)
