Possible Pa. speed traps, don`t know if this is totally true but I recieved an e-mail from a friend about Pa. starting a speed trap blitz on most major roads using for one pendot trucks with troopers driving & that they got 50 new dodge chargers as unmarked cars. Also that as of 8-15-09 the fine for not having your cards on you increases from $44 to $173 PA.law 39:3-29. Given that toll gate Ed needs the money it sounds like its true, but not to worry his limo with a trooper driver will still be allowed to speed.

Actually I hope the cops are going to start working I81 between Wilkes Barre and Scranton. I travel that road daily. You take your life in your hands every time you get on that road. Between the NASCAR driver wannabees and the tractor trailers blowing through at 75 -80 I'm surprised more people aren't getting killed on that stretch of road. The worst are the mobil home haulers. They are pulling an oversized load and these drivers think they're in a sports car. I see near misses with those jerks every couple of weeks. They come up on one of the construction zones and push into the middle of the road whether there is a car in the left lane or not. Their escort drivers are a joke they just follow the trailer instead of blocking anyone from passing when they're ready to do a lane change.

This morning I got cut off twice. I was thinking Rendell could balance the budget if the cops would get out in unmarked cars and nail some of these *censored*.

A lot times the emails are hoaxes, they just change the State and route numbers and people forward it to everyone. But usually end up not having any on the roads.

samhill, I beleive that is old email that was circualting around a year or two ago. You can put it into the circular filing cabinet.

--------------------

Bill, It isn't speed that kills but dumbass drivers, the autobahn in Germany is safer that the interstates here and it has many stretches with no speed limit. The difference is they go after the people doing stupid things. Tailgating, DRIVING IN THE LEFT PASSING LANE WHEN NOT PASSING, passing on the right.... etc. I read a very interesting article regarding safety on roads in Montana. The numbers are startling to say the least :
http://www.hwysafety.com/hwy_montana_2001.htm

Not so fast says a follow up study just completed by National Motorists Association. The study shows the safest period on Montana’s Interstate highways was when there were no daytime speed limits or enforceable speed laws.

The doubling of fatal accidents occurred after Montana implemented its new safety program; complete with federal funding, artificially low speed limits and full enforcement.
Doubled when they instituted a speed limit, crazy as it sounds it's the truth

That is one thing I can agree with, not sure what the deal is with those guys but having seen them numerous times doing that I couldn't agree more. I almost saw one hit a bridge abutment and if the car didn't move over in the lane next to him he probably would have hit it or the car.

I'm always 5-10 over the speed limit but I'm paying attention to what I'm doing. I guess it's more aggressive/assinine driving than speeding.

I got cut off by a clown in a volvo this AM. On the phone yacking, not paying attention, tried to pull in the passing lane through me. If I didn't lock up the brakes she would've taken out my right fender. Fortunately the person behind me was paying attention and didn't rear end me. Then she flips me off for being in her way. That kind of stuff happens way to often on 81. Rendell could create a surplus if the cops would target that area.

I believe that 100%+ ...... If people would just DRIVE, or if not, GET THE F**K OUT OF MY WAY  , I would never have one instance of road rage --- the roads would then be safer for everyone! That's a fact. All the rush hour accidents that happen on the Mass Pike, 495, 128/1/3... (yes it really has THREE route #'s -- welcome to MA :| ) would be avoided if people would:

#1: STAY THE F**K OUT OF THE LEFT LANE IF YOUR GOING TO DO >65MPH
#2: MAINTAIN YOUR SPEED IF YOUR GOING TOO SLOW & 100 CARS NEED TO PASS YOU -- DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY & SPEED UP!! YOU'LL GET YOUR ASS KICKED!!
#3: IF YOU CAN'T WALK & CHEW GUM AT THE SAME TIME, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU CAN COMMUTE WITH A CELL PHONE IN ONE HAND & A COFFEE IN THE OTHER???!! DRIVE GODDAMMIT!!!!

I firmly believe it to be FACT that if there were no speed laws ( & no STUBBORN me, me, me, I, I, I, attitudes) there would be a 90% drop in MA accidents. It's our stupid-slow speedlimits & congested roads that lead to impatience......... and then accidents.

Smitty, if you take 128 a little further south it is also called 93 north and 95 south at the same time
Just try that on your Tom Tom

If you think you can drive while talking on phone try setting your cruise to a couple MPH over the speed limit and see how long the call last. The truck I drive is limited to 66 MPH and I will drive up on people in the center lane on the phone doing 45-50 MPH in a 65 many times a day. This, IMO is more dangerous than speeding. Not just cars either, I am talking about trucks also, in fact the new breed of truck drivers are just as big of A holes as the cars. Another thing, do the states really think that having one hand up to your ear while talking on the phone is the problem with cell phones?

The problem with cellphones is all the fumbling around that goes with it.

I tried talking on my wife's cell once while driving. I couldn't concentrate. Hell I don't even talk to passengers when I drive. Of course I'm a bit anti social to begin with but when I'm driving I'm constantly watching out for the dumbass in the other car that thinks he can drink coffee, talk on a phone and have a cigarette while piloting a vehicle. No accidents since 1971 so I guess it works for me.

Nope. It's just a money maker for both the state and the insurance co's. $100 + $60 surcharge in NY.

.

I don't think the fumbling around is the problem, I think its brain fade while talking that causes people to slow way down. Now texting while driving thats probably the worst, but I have seen people reading the newspaper, putting on makeup, eating a bowl of cereal, you name it. The only think the hands free law did was give the states revenue and made people look totally wacked walking around talking to themselves with a wireless bug in there ear.

The biggest problem with road rage is the left lane dick. If you are only going 65 or 70 OR SLOWER GET THE HELL OUT OF THE LEFT LANE YOU F%^&ING %$$*&@e. That is about 90% cause of all road rage. People trying to get around slow moving road hogs that think THEY own the road and can drive in any lane they want. So in order to get to work or wherever they want to go people have to pass these left lane dicks on the right and unfortunately cut off other people in the process. :mad2: What is worse is when someone goes into the far right lane then comes up beside my truck and cuts in front of me because the left lane dick has parked his or her car right next to the car in the middle lane and is afraid to pass. this is also for the #$$ who stays in the middle lane and wont move over either going 60 of 50. Note the signs that say no trucks in the left lane. Why they are there no one knows but the state makes easy money from that. This forces trucks to pass on the right. Anyone tried to drive on Rt. 17 in North Jersey it is suicide all because people won't stay to the right when not passing. :mad3:

Why would you think it's not a problem? If your eyes on the phone they aren't on the road, I can't tell you how many accidents I have avoided simply because I was paying attention. Many of them required action that split second.

Fumbling causes the "I didn't see it" accidents.
As in...
I didn't see the semi that I just rearended.
I didn't see the telephone pole...

The talking causes lack of attention to the road and their surroundings.
That leads to the left lane slow down.
The inevitable result...
Mario weaving through the resulting cluster of cars...
Causing someone to panic and jam the brakes on...
Spilling the coffee and starting the road rage machine.

Stupid drivers should be banned from the left lane not trucks!
