Wait for the all electric vehicles , these hybrids are only half way houses

to the future of all electric transportation . Why carry around all those

junk iron parts , when a simple drive train is all you need ?

They will be here soon and we can all enjoy the future of driving!!!!!

Right after we build 20 more nuclear plants to charge them up and install new power grid to deliver the power.

You will probably never see another nuclear power plant built

in your lifetime .....

They are shutting them down as quick as possible ..

http://www.beyondnuclear.org/reactors-are-closing/

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/17/exelon-official-n ... he-us.html

As far as the grid stress you need to read this report for the

"polar vortex" power usage in January 2018 which was the most

recent high usage period.

http://pjm.com/-/media/library/reports-notices/we ... ashx?la=en

Electric cars are usually charged at night when power usage is low..

probably over 80%

You missed the sarcasm in my point. Only nuclear can provide the energy needed for all those EV's. There is not enough energy to power all the cars. And when everyone tries to charge at night, it will become a peak power time and the rate will rise. Plus, I just explored the possibility of getting an EV and the standard charge time is 13 hours. It takes longer then off peak times are available. Until some new magic comes along, it ain't happening.

Oh Kev how could you consider deserting the ICE crowd. I was bored and getting a new oil filter for the Genesis and stopped by the Hyundai Suresky showroom in Goshen as they are agents for both. The plug in Ioniq was on display (only one). Battery range (EPA) 28 miles, motoring press says that when driven with any energy it's 20 miles range on the battery. 20% to 80% make that 12 miles. Cold weather make that 8 miles. Battery degradation make that 5 miles after a few years. So I am looking into a system where I get it started and warmed up and then drive to the front gate and hang around and recharge. What idiot would buy that one? See my Millennial post under jokes. I laughed and left:D

You mean when "power usage" used to be low.

And there are already examples that will happen. My village is one.

Here, lots of homes heat with electric because we get cheap hydro power. Because of that our local power usage does not go down at night when it gets into colder weather. And, because of that we've never had a night discount rate. Plus, in colder weather we're always over our 100KW contract allotment and having to pay for supplemental power bought from the grid at a higher KWH rate.

All those electric vehicles you envision charging at night would do the same all year round and not just in cold weather.

Ask Siri to do it Fred.....gotta work right?

Kevin

And Newbie, I went out yesterday and drove a Volt. Nice looking car, loved the interior, whatever. But it lacked any punch in the accelerator. The car was used and at my VW dealership. The salesman indicated weak interest in the car. I would buy one and test it out myself, but it is for the wife and she did not care for it. I know, when it comes to saving the planet we should not have such choices. Overall, it is the battery I worry about.

Here is the news, EVs are in no way planet savers.
