Getting a deer is secondary to being outdoors and having fun but still, good luck!

Yup, a bad day of hunting is better than a good day in an office. ;)

went to range today. worked on scope for next saturday muzzle season. boy am i out of practice. guess its time to load up about 100 rounds .243 ammo, and get back on ymy BRASS for shooting. Got muzzle loader to bout 2" groups at 100 yds shooting 295Gn bullets over 100 grn powder. Disappointed, i know i am better than that! it was me, flinching/anticapated trigger release.

2" is MOD (minute of deer) Much better than shotgun slugs are and much more accurate than most hunters are too. I wouldnt even worry about it.

Decided i'm going to get a Harris bi-pod for smoke pole. Got one on rem .243 and its a joy shooting with it at range, plus it folds up out of way for offhand shooting.https://www.harrisbipods.com/HBRM.html

Yup, 2 inch at 100 yrd will fill a freezer.

Back when NY rifle season started on a Monday, the Saturday right before, I watched two guys put up paper plates at the gun club 40 yard backstop, sit down at the bench and each pop off a box of five slugs. One got two hits on the plate the other only one out of his five. And that was leaning on a shooting bench with sand bags. They deemed themselves good to go.

As they packed up their stuff I said a prayer for the deer.

NY muzzle loader season, northern zone, Oct. 13-19. I have a camera and a ladder blind at camp. Had plenty of pictures of doe’s but not too many were coming in at the right time. I sat there for 3 mornings and evenings and not one came through. A friend invited me to his place 15 miles away. He’s got over 300 acres and really tries to manage the herd. I had orders not to shoot any bucks unless the antlers were ugly or non-symmetrical and no does other than larger ones without young. Hopefully they’re no longer fertile. It’s amazing what 15 miles can do. There was a near constant parade of does and their young coming through. After about 2 hours a good size doe came through and I shot her. She may have still been fertile but she was alone. Got her canning right now. The freezer is to full as it is.
