Oh. I... I might be retarded. I sold my Ruger pistol for a ridiculously low price a couple weeks ago because I constantly had issues with the spring...
I guess I'll buy a new one as soon as I get my next paycheck, because that was a fun thing to plink with. I even taught my son to shoot with it, and sometimes carried it in the woods while hiking!

The new models have done away with this problem, this fix was for the older models and for people that did not want to sell at a loss and buy a new gun. You might be able to find an older model for a good price. good luck

I've never had a problem during reassembly muzzle down trigger pulled to get the hammer forward then muzzle up to rotate the spring housing into place.
But then I am "one of those guys" that can disassemble most pistols in the time most people take to sneeze... and reassemble almost as fast...
