Hey Fred,

I thought for sure you would have a big ole pepper shaker by the stove. And you claim you used to spend time in PA !!!!!

We have the same setup in our butcher shop for the knives. Keeps them nice and organized.

However we can't do the cast iron pan....... Damn flat top ceramic stove. But that is what SHE wanted so I got to live with it.......

I've thought about these cast iron pans for a while now. It sure brings back memories of my mom making crepes and bacon and eggs in them growing up. She still has hers from her grandma. I don't think I'll get that until mom doesn't cook anymore. She knows I'm interested in it and as we have a big old farmhouse, she is starting to hand over more family treasures. I always cooked with mom's fry pan with no problem and then struggled to cook in the newer cast iron fry pan. Now I know how to do it, I will start looking for them in garage sales.

They were all new at one time Fred. I have the smaller sizes but a 10 is bigger than any I have, it would be nice to have a big one like that now and then. All mine were new 20 years or so ago and now they are well seasoned.

My buddy gave me an old 10" cast iron pan a few years back. That is all I use now. Nothing like cast iron!

Crap my friend--a couple hundred wide open yards all the way around the homestead, three socially inept dogs, & lets not forget my guard horses. A hellish gun cabinet with enough ammo to make our fearless leaders blush--hell, I didn't spend 2 tours in the Nam and learn nothing. Other then all that, peace & tranquillity John. toothy
Fred...didn’t know that.
Thank you for your service, Sir!!!🇺🇸

I have several cast Iron pans I love to use. 2 Sit on the stove all the time. One is my egg pan. The other gets about everything else. They are both no name pans. One is real heavy and thick for a cast iron pan. its my egg pan, does a beautiful job. The other is probably 30 years old, newer but not a lodge. Don't know what it is but it has a nice smooth finish and fairly thin. I'm not a fan of the rough lodge pans after using nice smooth pans.

My wife hates them. She can't figure out how to use them. She always has the fire too hot, and doesn't pay enough attention to them. So burnt and stuck it is.

Ex-wife was the same way. Stoves only had one setting - high! And cast iron was too old fashioned,.... which was the excuse not to learn how to use them properly.

Now, coal range, gas stove, or wood camp fire, Melissa reaches for the cast iron pans first. And she sure knows how to use them,...…

.............. including on me if I don't behave.
