It is definitely an acquired taste, but then so is Limburger cheese. I may be wrong here, but I believe that historically Braunschweiger was originally made from Goose livers, but at some juncture it transitioned to pork liver.

I just did a search of Gooseliver and Braunschweiger and there is some speculation that Gooseliver is a regional colloquialism for Braunschweiger known to (at least) north/central Ohio, which may have certain ethnic ties. My Russian/Polish Grandmother and my Mom always called it Gooseliver.

Hey Bob, do you ever go to the big butcher shop up at the lake on 19...Hasslebachs Meats? Man...if not you need to take a road trip. They have a meat counter about 75-90 feet long. Best meat between there and Cinci.
