Do you have a side dish to go with them? And do you make them different from the norm ?

Like most sandwiches, I like rubens with a pickle and chips.

This might gross you out but, I squeeze all the juice out of the sauerkraut I can, then mix in a little Mayo... Let it sit for a few hours or over night. then make them up..

Corned beef or pastrami? That's the first question. Dill pickles and french fries for the side.

Corned beef. If I want a pastrami sandwich, it gets some spicy mustard and buttered toasted bread.

I have fond memories of the Red Door Tavern on 5th Ave. in Columbus where their famous Reuben came with a pickle and chips.

The only problem with that place was the $50 price tag for A sandwich and a soda. Was a great sandwich though.

Wife and I split it. We were full but still...never thought I'd see the day to spend that much for a sandwich. Spent the same amount for a wood fired pizza in Manhattan too. Must be a popular number.

Fred, they had Swiss and 1,000 Islands on it as well. Don't know why the pic is just a corned beef looking sandwich.

Did any of you go to the link? I wonder how many 6 packs of cookies they actually sell for $49?

As for differences, I didn't like Rye for some reason 10 years ago when I had my first Reuben so we'd make it with just round rolls. Tasted pretty good but it's much better with Rye.

Come on fred don't go school marm on us. Did I tell you about the time I misspelled a word in the spelling bee? Dad asked me what the word was and I said posse. Dad said "well hell yeah you misspelled it, you can't even pronounce it"

While this thread goes down in flames let me ask if anyone has ever had a rachel sandwich? No this is not what you think, it is a real sandwich but neve eaten by real men.

When the Mayor & his Dad came up here lookin for a car, we stopped at our local (Marathon) lil café--Reilly's-- & we all had Reubens--I didn't even know they made them but they were definitely good--made like cabin over described plus sauerkraut.
