and on a more local note...
In general, fish from the lower Hudson are less contaminated. For example, from the Federal Dam at Troy to the Rip Van Winkle Bridge at Catskill, no one is advised to eat striped bass. However, south of Catskill, men and older women can eat up to one striped bass meal a month.

For years GE made transformers up the Hudson and dumped the waste oil in the river there loaded with PCBs and dioxin. Jack Welch was the CEO and knew all about it but nobody managed to nail him. Washington was advised just leave it alone to wash out over slowly the next century. Instead they excavated it as best they could and now bingo they stirred the pot. It's a shame as it is a beautiful river to boat on and fish. It is getting better year by year but FF will be a fully grown adult by the time it is clean.
