Jack, I have a pair of Keens and a pair of Merrils. I have had orthotics in both. Both pairs have held up well. I like the keens a little better. I wear them daily. Not a cheap shoe but well worth the money I feel. I think I paid $130 for them.

Most any good quality running shoe will be excellent for walking as well. You are looking for good heel cushioning, a flexible mid-sole (bend it in the store, if it doesn’t yield, it’s too stiff), a conforming shoe liner (not just a flat pad of thin material), a rigid counter (the part that surrounds the heel), preferably with a notch for your Achilles tendon. High-tops are better for those with ankle instability.
