Ouch ouch ouch. Hernia if it suddenly turns bad (strangulated?) can be extremely dangerous, so it's good you got it dealt with quickly.

If I complained about surgery pain my wife would say, "Ask me about being in labor and having C-Sections, you sissy!" But seriously, I hope they sent you home with some pain meds to get through the first day or two.

Hope the worst is behind you. Glad that they got it taken care of in time.

I've also had one going for about 12 years. ( abdomen, lower stomach). I saw a surgeon with a bad attitude about a year ago. After poo- pooing the need to have to done for 10 minutes, he stated it can flat out put you away. Turns out he didn't want to saw through some old scar tissue from old school prostate cancer surgery years a go. Also refused to operate on smokers. Gotta do it, but it would put me out of coal grunting and yard work for months. Time for a new Consult.

Good luck to you and hope you are good to go soon.

WEnt back to Hosp ER friday morning, after getting violent sick, throwing up Thursday evening late/early Friday morning. Readmitted, put tube down in stomach hook to a pump. Bowels were supposedly working when released past Wednesday after surgery Tuesday. Was strictly on liquid diet when second episode happened. No water nothing for friday, saturday, and part of sunday. clamped tube, tested stomach secretion rate for 4 hours... very little in stomach, so back on clear liquid diet. BUT this time i knew bowels were working, passing gas, and some light squirts out back end. Sunday mid morning a bomb exploded out back end.... bowels moved a LOT! Dr pulled tube and went to full liquid diet for lunch and evening, bowels kept flowing good. Monday lunch and supper went to regular meals... but only ate a lil bit of each item, turds got looking lot better. Had to get up and walk 6 times a day everyday even when on stomach tube.
Came home late today... i am being real moderate light on how much i eat.... mostly soft foods, pudding, cream soups. And thats was my memorable weekend!

This suxs! back in er, then another 5 days in hospital. seems gall bladder became inflamed...... intestines have been real super sluggish/slow since hernia operation.4 days no food or water,,,, iv saline solutions and iv antibiotics. surgeon looked over all new scans, ultra sounds, etc. said he won't remove gal bladder.. its just trying to work but because intestines aren't up to speed it backed up.

So soft foods only, low fat, and LOTS of fluids now that home. Believe me i listen a LOT to be sure i hear bowel movements! Small portions and no stuffing myself!
