Knee Surgery Tuesday

That is another way of warning you that I will be on here a lot as I will be laid up for the next 12 weeks. I need knee replacement but at 41 they said I am too young for the procedure so they are just going in and getting rid of all my cartilage. It still does not sound fun, and while hardly an invasive surgery, my profession as a welder and kneeling all the time in cramped, awkward corners all the while kneeling for hours on end means I'll be out of work for such a long time. I have put it off for a year now, and nearly did so again, however I have to get it done sometime and so I figured why not start out by losing some weight, though having the Dr cut out a few ounces of cartilage may not be the ideal way to do it.

Good luck NS, I managed to hold off on the cartilage thing until my late 50s, didn't take much recovery time if done invasively but it would have been a long time before being able to kneel for long periods. I've since had both knees done at the same time I have found that there is a sweet spot I can kneel on with little discomfort, it's getting back up that becomes a chore, there's nothing like OE. If the scope thing works well for you it's great & your right weight loss helps, my problem is I keep finding it again.

Will be praying for you.12 weeks sitting on your butt ? You are going to have to hide from that extra weight that will be trying to find you.

This forum may be good therapy during your recovery.

Good luck with both surgery and weight loss as Im not sure which is easier.

DM, for myself as I said I found a certain angle that I call my sweet spot that I can kneel on without hardly any problem at all. I have a contractor friend that had both done & has never had much of an issue while others say they can't kneel at all. Guess it plays hell for Muslims, growing up Greek Catholic I would have been in a world of hurt myself but at least I can take my almost daily walks down to the lake painfree & no ice afterwards like with my original equipment.

Bummer, I'm sorry to hear about your knee troubles. Are you on crutches or a wheel chair? When I had my foot surgery in Jun I was surprised to learn of the large variety of mobility equipment now available for foot surgery. I was on a kneeler or knee scooter and an acquaintance was on a leg peg. This is an L shape peg leg that fits the knee so you can walk; the leg sticks out the back on a rest pad. It may be worth your while to ask if there is any "new" mobility equipment you could use.

If it's just going to be scoped I walked out of the hospital without using anything, after the pain meds wore off it was a different story, not bad but the stiffness was what bothered me the most.

I'm overdue for two full replacments myself, and have been putting it off for a few month.

The Terminator ^^ ... needs a few days off is all ... I'll be back, later.

some family members had knee replacements .. some one at a time, some both at same time.

Hell, I can't kneel on my OEM knees. Haven't been able to in about 20 yrs. Good luck with the surgery NS
