Apparently there's a hellasious forest fire goin on up in Canada and it's HEAVY smoke is way down where I live. First thought it was a local house /field fire, went to Cortland to do some shopping (20 miles North) & it to, was smokie. Not real conducive to breathing. :o

Same here, Fred.

Was nice and clear this morning. Around noon I heard lots of fire sirens heading out of town. Took an after-lunch nap and woke up to yellow overcast sky and haze like morning fog. Went outside and smelled the smoke and thought there must be a big fire in the state forest north of town.

Checked Syracuse local news and it says over 100 forest fires up in Quebec blowing this way and covering most of central NY. :o

If an issue to your health is present, moving out of the area for a short time is advisable. PPE is a last ditch effort and actually not needed in your case.

You homeowners insurance might even cover such a temp. change in lodgings.

There are fires all over Canada. Ive been getting the smoke off and on from fires in western Canada and now Im getting it from the eastern part of Canada. Its been going on for weeks here. Heres a map and there are other links. Not all work if your internet is a little slow. Its a major drought that rain isnt even stopping. All those spruce trees that can burn in a rain. https://cwfis.cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/maps/fm3?type=fwih

I like this one even better. it shows the expected smoke movment the next 2 days and the numbers you see, if you click on one it shows where the fires are in that area. https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/

I'm up in Buffalo, NY at the moment and it's very hazy. Last night I got a few pretty cool pictures of the sun filtered thru the haze. I snapped them at around 7:30pm.

Taken with my cell phone, Samsung S22 Ultra at 100x zoom. You can tell by reference of the tree branches that sun had decended slightly by rotation of the earth. These three pictures were all taken inside of 1 minute.

I just drive home from work and my truck automatically turned on its headlights. It is bad, and x2 on the breathing comment by Fred.
