By 3 string bale, what size exactly do you mean? The ones that weigh about 100 pounds? Or big round ones like Fred mentioned? Big round bales of good hay here are around $60 but vary some. Small, about 5.

Saw this posted this morning by a man I know that sells hay by the tractor trailer load:

"5.29 a gallon for farm fuel today. People will be turning animals loose because they can’t afford feed for them. Wait a year from now and folks will be eating their saddle horse if something doesn’t change."

yes TSB. Coastal 2nd cutting a three string bale was $46 last week. My hay use is tiny but for the average barn ... wow
Depending on how much you need it might be worth a trip North. Just this morning I saw the ad below:

"Large Square Bales. Baled right!!! 10-12 percent moisture 3x3x8ft weighing 700-800 lbs store inside. Horse quality. 1st cut ranging from $65-$85-$95-$100 depending on quality. 2nd cut $100-$120. Large loads available from our storage shed or pickup can be arranged 8-4pm Monday-Friday at our Addison Vt location. Full semi loads can be arranged of 54-57 bales or gooseneck loads up to 20 bales"

I tried to just post a link to the ad but for some reason the privacy settings won't allow it. PM me for info if interested.

Rob I will tell the lady that runs the barn around the corner. Larger bales can be hard to move around in a barn. The last trailer we sent up North was attacked by polar bears

HO UP again massively today. Hay costs, shavings from QC (no more), fuel, barn help as no one wants to work. It's all over now not next year. Orion dressage here had a good guy Oscar but he is having a new knee early May. He is out for 4-6 months and after three months of ads for help no luck. I could house 35 horses and three riding rings two inside and could fill it tomorrow... yeah right ... that and a bleeding ulcer.

The only thig left is swabbing the deck of Richards luxury yacht that used to take $10000 to fill up and now takes $20000
