I found it on a drag racing website. I knew coalburners would appreciate a beast like that!

What's even more amazing is the owner got the factory blue prints and built that tractor from scratch. There's another You Tube vid about that.

I worked on several of those, not quite as big as that one, the owner told me they called them sod-busters. They would start out right after breakfast & a full head of steam & pull most all day, then the team of horses would re-set the plows to go the opposite direction & head back the next. A day or two after another crew would be following behind finishing up & planting with smaller steam tractors. At one time he was thought to have the largest collection in the U.S..

it takes 6 2000+ pound Belgians to fully handle at most 4 bottoms. that's 12,000 pounds/foot of natural torque at 1/1.

40 would take 120,000 if not for the available reduction in the tractor drive, as is there is ALOT of rotational power being thrown down right there.

i have a hand built 65cc / 11.25hp fuel injected 2 stroke scooter that will move an adult 100mph at 75mpg. it's a charm bracelet trinket compared to that traction engine.

There may be a few with the skills if they could gear up the tools to build a safe steam vehicle

A few years back, Sir William explained in good detail what tremendous power and economy steam engines had, and what a loss that was when the Rail Roads switched to diesel engines. It was very enlightening.

And did anyone notice that engine made so much steam, it not only had enough to work the whistle, it had to blow off the excess presser a few times while pulling all that. Considering that and how it didn't look like it was slowed or straining, I wouldn't be surprised if it could pull more than 44.

Tons of torque, that's for sure. They also picked the perfect soil and weather for the demonstration.

I am more impressed with the build.

Sir William and my son would have made a great pair. My son, since age 4, has studied about steam tractors and steam locomotives since before he was old enough to read. YouTube has been a great tool during rainy and cold days for kids willing to spend time learning rather than playing video games. He understands the minute workings of the mechanicals and the designs like no other young kid I’ve seen. Anyone have any old antique or new sweepers/vacuums needing repairs? He can fix them...since he was young. He can fix your truck or car, and tend your coal stoves too. He’s wanting to restore an old base heater. We’ll get to that eventually, when we find one.

According to my son, now 15, he says no modern engine can compare to steam where torque is concerned. He says, “steam power has enough power to turn the earth backwards if there’s enough weight to put the traction to the dirt.”

I wish Steve and Paulie lived closer to us. It’s untelling what the three of you could get into. He’d be that much the better for it cause ol’ Dad here can only show him so much.

Yeah...my buddy was telling me about that video and was also impressed with the build. I haven’t even watched it yet, but my son has. Getting ready to watch it now. I had no idea the guy built this tractor.
