We need some help finding a replacement part or part number or simply a replacement spring that might work.
What is the part number or specs for replacing the spring in the left steering brake, that goes behind and against the adjusting nut on 1985 John Deere 455D crawler loader?
Ours broke and we cannot find a part number or suitable replacement.
It is part # 8 in this service manual pic (not mine). It seems similar to auto adjusting mechanism on car or trailer brakes, with the spring over the adjustment rod/shaft.
Searches are complicated as JD reused the model number for a lawn tractor and Ford also used the model number.
I've found some manuals online but either very expensive ($70-$200) or poor quality scans. I found one on libmanual, but no way to checkout, not sure if it is legit? https://www.libmanual.com/downloads/john-deere-45 ... al-manual/
Not sure if that would have the part number on it?
Can anyone offer some help with this? Thanks.

Thanks for the tip.
Closest one is about 45 mins one way and I'm going on lockdown tomorrow (surgery on Tues). On my way for tests today, Covid test and oncology tomorrow. Then I'll be on my back again for a few weeks.
Good suggestion, but it would be helpful if someone here has the info or a 450D/455D manual or source to view it online. It's surprising the amount of knowledge folks here have in such widespread areas

I was thinking a phone call and maybe emailing your picture would be enough to get a part number, but I see the other guys are all over it. If unavailable you are stuck with trying to find something close, or getting one from a salvage machine.CoalisCoolxWarm wrote: ↑Thu. Mar. 18, 2021 7:55 amThanks for the tip.

If the number Gaw gave is correct a google search for it, it gives an alternate part number on the first link (wbparts). Always check Amazon and ebay of course also.

Sure do appreciate the effort you guys are putting in to help.

Well, that seems like the correct part number, with corresponding NSN and specs are here: https://www.iso-group.com/NSN/5360-01-195-9704
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate any for purchase...
Anyone with better google-foo ?

Nice find!
Guess the same part number, doesn't matter what year. We're going to order 2 of them.
Thanks, fellas!
