So normally when dad bales hay its moved to the side of the field an that's what happened this year.

On Tuesday I got a call from the wife that she heard two pops an looked out the window an she saw smoke coming from the hay bales but it went out.

Oddly enough a field of CRP grass caught fire the same afternoon that was ruled arson and had to be put out by the local volunteer fire department.

When I got home I checked it out, pic at bottom. I guess some sort of firework was shot at the hay from a car on the road. Thankfully it fell short and didn't hurt anything.

Dad reported the incident to the sheriffs office. The deputy that came documented it as attempted arson.

So if you have hay close to a public road move it out of bottle rocket range. I hope they don't set ripe corn on fire some of it is about ready.

Iv also seen haylage catch fire but this was baled dry an not sealed. I always liked the smell of haylage and the cattle love it. The bales will be moved to directly behind my yard hopefully they will be safer there.

Not a farmer but a farmers helper if I can, I was instructed to throw the heavier than normal bales off to the side when stacking the loft, hay for cattle is different except when again going into inside storage. A lot of barns around here are becoming a thing of the past with all the field wrapping.

I hate to say this but if you have lots of local Amish it could be someone with a grudge against them, and them thinking they are Amish bales... not knowing they dont use many large bales. Ive heard some really crappy things that have been done to them thru the years here. I hope they catch the idiots and maybe start them on fire and see how they like it.

Idiot is right. People pay money for that for their gardens. Melissa used to carry a 5 gallon bucket with lid and a shovel just to get what the Amish around here leave when their horse "down shifts" for a hill. ;)

Makes great addition to soil for some wonderful tomato plants.

Carl,
With all due respect to you, I’ll offer a kind suggestion to you. I would recommend editing and/or completely deleting your last sentence above those pictures. Let’s not take the chance of giving anyone any stupid ideas.

I had thought of the same thing and mentioned it to my wife, but right now it is not something I’d mention in public.

Let’s lend a hand to farmers by not mentioning these things in public to give any idiots hair brained ideas.

Fred, you took my words completely out of context. The implication was don't give anyone any ideas that they may then act upon, thus turning those ideas into stupid hairbrained ideas. I wasn't calling you or anyone those names.
