Those look like cicada killers to me. Are they the same? If so, we’ve had those living in the ground around here. You can walk through sandy areas and they fly low to the ground while you walk through them, but they never offer to sting. They have a stinger that sticks out about 3/8”.

Me and Levi have thought about starting a few hives, but don’t know anything about it.

We need a honeybee thread for beginners with pictures.

J, I'm right in the middle of the snow belt here on the hill (Freetown,NY 13803)--20 minutes away & is closest village (Marathon) & temp wise we're always 10* colder & get twice as much snow when it actually snows--Cortland--45 minutes away ya can at least double what ever they're gettin, but that's the closest city--to me it's a city!!! LOL
Same here east of Fred, always about 10 degrees colder than the local weather reports. But thanks to the shape of hills and valleys between my area and the Great Lakes, this area is in sort of a "snow hole". Go 5 miles in any direction, including south, and the seasonal snow totals double to those like Fred's area.

And just 15 miles east of here is the small town of Mount Vision, with the coldest recorded temps in all of NYS south of the Adirondacks.

One of the Syracuse TV weather men once said that he requested to work here in CNY because the weather is the most challenging of anywhere in the lower 48 States.

The old joke about, "If you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes", is more reality than joke here.

Looking at the size of the wasps in this report, I think we have the making of a new sport for wing-shooters - Wasp skeet.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/murder-hornets-worried ... 38490.html

I'd recommend starting with no less than #9 bird shot and work bigger from there if that doesn't consistently drop them. :o

Yep close to the same size as cicada killers, perhaps with a different attitude. CK’s can put the hurt on you too, but are generally harmless. These murder hornets may be different, may be the same. Can’t find any comparisons yet on google.

Okay that gives me a good idea that it's no different there than it is here....and yes it's no joke at all about waiting a minute for the weather to change. Seems all is well, then boom out of no where it changes. It can be frustrating when you're trying to get ahead of the curve...and not the coronavirus curve either. 😁

I hear the plan is that the gubberment is planning to kill those murder hornets. If so, I'd suggest finding where they live and killing them at night to be sure and kill each one in that colony.

I'm not sure if they can kill of them though.
