I have no idea where to post this so I put it here because it's not about coal. Last year I bought coal at Tractor Supply that came in fabric bags from Lehigh and I saved them with the intentions of putting metal grommets in the top edge for a cord to make a drawstring bag for fishing. Fish stay alive better in a bag like that than on a stringer. Anyway, I didn't get that done yet and today we're having massive flooding in the Midwest. A guy came in desperate to find sandbags to put by his house. I remembered the Lehigh bags and he thought they were great. He has some sand to put in them so I gave him a few. A little while later more people came in looking for the same thing and I showed them the bags too. They didn't have sand but the village has a sand pile for the streets so they were going there next. One never knows when something that's worthless is suddenly helpful.
This creek is usually only about 15 ft wide. Right now it's at least 1/4 mile across. The car in the background is about a mile away. This is looking out of my east door at my farm store.

DANG Jerry, how much more rain and wet is forecast ? how many feet above the close waterline is that tractor in the foreground sitting ?
I can see the rail bed out there but can't really tell how much of a bank is on the other side.

So far we're high enough. The rail bed and highway are between the water and my place, but I'm sure it hasn't crested. More rain is coming tonight and the ground is frozen so all of it is runoff. Right now every highway in Northeast Nebr. is closed.

I am very worried about your Wherle getting exposed to water and rusting. If you ship it to me I will return it in 10 years or so when we are sure the waters have receded.

Ha! Good one! I appreciate your support, thanks! I'll keep an eye on it and if it starts to get rusty I'll call you right away. Here's another view of our little creek.

Sand bags...I buy them to load 40#'s of coal in...who'd of thought...
If you have farms around you they will usually give you the feed
bags , because they are not refilled . Most are plastic and can be
twist-tied to hold coal . I got some at horse and dairy farms where
they use some feeds in bags. Most large farms use all bulk feeds.

Looks like you have a lot of frozen waterways too. Just checked USGS an most of the guages out your way are iced up. The Missouri sure spiked over the past day.

Thats a great story, thanks for sharing. Nice that something useless turned into something that potentially saves some property.
