An old wives tale.
When you hear the first chirps of a Black cricket
six weeks till the first frost.

Well we had a nice frost this morning.
Six weeks and one day

Heard the first chirps from a cricket last night. Six weeks till the first frost.

Should be the very end of September or early October. Fire season starts the 1st of October ish.

Frost on the tree tops and a little on the house roof this morning. None on the grass yet.

Pretty close to six weeks.

I hear those same crickets in my ear that cant hear live ones

If this theory holds true Oct 2nd it will freeze here and looking at the forecast no freezing thru Oct 11th. Maybe that is why I never heard the cricket/weather thing here. Early October freezes are fairly common normally.

I'll be sure to pay attention again next year.

Well I had an unexpected light frost this morning across my front yard, even though the weather stations say it only got down to 44 degrees here. That ends out being 6 weeks and 6 days.
