Have a 7 year old Cub Cadet LTX 1046 lawn tractor with an electric PTO clutch issue. Pulled the mower deck from under it last week to replace a mower blade spindle that had bad bearings. Put on a new deck belt at the same time. Reinstalled the deck, I have done this 4+ times before, and started the tractor. When I pulled the PTO switch to engage the mower, all I am getting is a click at the PTO clutch, but the clutch is not engaging. It worked fine days before when I used it last. The PTO clutch shot? I have replaced it once before, about 3+ years ago. No a cheap part if it des need replacement.

As long as you hear a good solid click, your PTO is good. You got a couple fuses under the hood, check them-- 2 or 3 I'm thinkin. My 2065 had a similar problem--I wired the PTO direct to a separate toggle switch--no problems since. Something w/ the ign. switch--don't ask me what!!

If you are actually hearing a good loud click or more like a clunk from the pto clutch, the clutch is working
In order for the clutch to spin the blades ..
1- Engine must be running..
2- The pto belt has to be on the pto clutch pulley..
Now b4 you think I am a smartazz, take the time to check these simple things that do get overlooked at times, especially over the age of 50.
If the fuse is blown, there will be no power at the pto clutch,no click is possible with no fuse.
The wires rite at the pto clutch are suspect
They often get damaged enough to still make the clunk but can't carry the load because of wiring damage.

Check your wiring. Clean your grounds. Make sure your battery is fully charged especially while running. Were you sitting on the seat- safety switch issue? Voltage can effect it. If still nothing check on this site- onlycubcadets.net.

Almost like not having the belt on the pulley at all !!Clousseau wrote:Stupid! Stupid! Had the new belt installed on the wrong side of the idler arm. No enough tension on the clutch when installed to make it turn!
Does this mean that you are over 50 yrs old ??
I sure hope so ,i pity you if you are younger than 50 & doing things like this, what will be left for you to goof-up when you get older.

Not a whole lot different than putting the blade on upside down. I was in a rush at work and put the middle one of three upside down. They mowed for a month and no one noticed until I pulled the blades again.
