EV's not so good for the environment. Impact of Lithium mining that they don't want you to know about.

Paul,Thanx! Obviously there's no "Free Lunch"... If You create a working fuel and mobility concept that not only works, but has a "Cradle To Grave" concept,it would be more naturally viable...

All types of mining cause damage to the earth so we have to do it in

least destructive manner. In the past many have robbed the earth of

its materials and not restored the land .

It's still very hypocritical that the EV pushers don't want you to know about the true negative impacts of EV's.

What is happening to the environment is counter to all the hype about how "green" EVs are and how anything else is destroying the planet. Keep pushing EVs and see what that huge demand for electricity does to the environment. EVs are NOT the answer. They are just kicking the can down the road.

A perfect example of the hypocrisy of EVs "greenness" is the picture of a long train of coal-filled cars and the caption is, "There goes another load of EV fuel."

Don't think so? Just look at the demand for energy and how coal power plants are being put back online because renewables can't cut it, and what that has done not only to all energy prices, but to our coal prices. And if you think it's all because of the war in Ukraine you fell for the current administration's energy failure excuses. The demand-created energy shortage started long before the war.

Maybe the EV pushers need to wipe the coal dust off their rose-colored glasses to see what is really happening.

Sunny Boy:

Not in NY -- ~ 0% coal energy..

"Natural gas, nuclear, and hydropower consistently generate more than 90% of New York's electricity. Natural gas, nuclear power, and hydroelectricity together have provided more than nine-tenths of New York State's utility-scale (1 megawatt and larger) electricity net generation since 2012."

"70% of this electricity comes from renewable resources (43% from existing New York and Quebec hydroelectric generation, 27% from solar, land-based wind and other renewables) while the other 30% comes from zero emission resources that include nuclear generation"

Close, but not quite correct. I found the eia article you quote from. 2/5 electric comes from Nat gas which in neither renewable or zero emission.

All have to be approx because they vary by time of day and the load.

Electric is produced to prevent wastage in the excess which cannot be sold.

I agree, however that has nothing to do with the fact that you didn't acct for the nat gas that is not renewable or carbon neutral.

You will always have a small fraction of each fuel, even if only in a backup role

Never put all your faith in one energy source..

One fifth is a small fraction, two fifths is a great time. :D

Put down the mug of EV coolaid, BB. Your numbers don't quite match those of what NYS is claiming even as they are trying to put a good spin on how "green" they are.

https://www.eia.gov/state/?sid=NY

"..........In 2020, renewable sources and nuclear power, together, supplied 60% of New York's in-state generation from utility-scale and small-scale facilities. Nuclear power accounted for 29% of New York's utility-scale net generation in 2020, down from 34% in 2019 because of the retirement of one reactor. A second reactor retired in 2021, completing the closure of Indian Point, one of the state's four nuclear power plants............"

That means that "renewables" are only around 1/3 of only the "in state" power generation, not the total power the state uses. And this is NYS admitting that. Not quite your 70%.

And as for no coal,.... NYS is part of a multi-state and international electric grid. Thinking your electric is all "clean & green" just because there are no coal plants in NYS could be considered naive, but I know that you know otherwise because we've had this discussion before, and I've posted the links to prove it.

Got your backyard windmill set up yet ? :D

Why would a NYS utility buy electric at a high price ?

Even though the capital costs are more you have to look at the

TOTAL COST OF PRODUCTION and the continued escalation of

fuel costs.

https://www.google.com/search?q=cost+of+electric+ ... vs=1#tts=0

Over the lifetime of 25+ years the savings are in astronomical

numbers, with all the free fuel available.
