WOW !!!! That kinda work takes a big set of b*ll's to do. Calling the shots on a piece that size is only for the ''best of the best''.

Nice job !!

It's a older machine so it can take the over weightness <--- (is that even a word?)
I would be more concerned that the boring mill guy didn't put a big enough center in the end!!

Nice pics Art keep them coming.

60+ hours into the job. Got a little turning done, using dual tool posts.

Part is down to 14rpm from 18rpm.
Still a 1/2 inch to come off, what is turned.
Need to check weight wabble/ flop in the morning.

That is one serious piece of steel MB. 😳

My hats off to anyone who has to stand near when it is suspended in the air while moving about... if that thing gets loose it’s all over but the bawling.

no kidding 18-14 rpm. I know by the numbers that seems slow but when I look at it and consider the length and weight even that seems plenty fast to me.

skills that pay the bills baby,

I'm no expert on lathes but I'm pretty sure the lathe tool doesn't care about RPM, it's looking at surface speed.

You are close surface feet per minute.

Got it cranking today, up to 40 rpm.
Works out to be 230 sfm at 22 inch diameter.

I was getting cold from the breeze off the chuck.

It is some kind of punch for a 5000 ton press. That's about all I can say.

It gets shipped to Europe when it is completely assembled.
This part is on the smaller side compared to others in the assembly print.

We just do sub-contact work.
