They were judged in their time, for anyone one willing to look. And not favorably either.

Henry Ford was well known for his anti-semitism and pro-Nazi stance. Just before WWII he was awarded the Grand Cross of the German Eagle for his outspoken anti-Semitism and Nazi sympathy.

As for Tesla, he died broke, because, some of his best ideas he lost when taken advantage by his former boss and hero, Thomas Edison, who often got credit for inventions by his staff, and Marconi who claimed to have invented "radio" but it was built off so many of Tesla's patents that it was not allowed to be patented in the US, which resulted in a battle between them.

Later in life, Tesla's genius continued to blind him and he lost everything on the unworkable idea of transmitting electrical power without wires. Had he been the huckster that Musk is he'd have been far wealthier than Musk.

If you read about what many said at the time about those greats, you'll find that they were not so great.

Didn't another Tesla sedan just up and spontaneously combust a few days ago?
Spontaneously? Possibly. Just as cell phones, computers, Ford Pintos, and GM pickups combusted. Nobody's perfect.

And don't forget SHC -- spontaneous human combustion. ;) This has worried me dreadfully since I was about age 9 and read about Grandma sitting down for a nap, and later the family found just a few greasy ashes remaining on the seat of her easy chair. :o

Don't report this next to a pic of an MGB that is not fair. MGBs never ignited. In fact the ignition system seldom ignited either. Lucas had that installed as a safety feature. Why is this trio of democrat lesbian crooks held as experts on anything anymore?

Hmmmm.... I’m not sure how Trump is involved here…. In case you missed the smiley faces, my intent was to make a non-Liberal non-Conservative joke about spontaneous human combustion. I really haven’t lost much sleep over SHC. Though before you relax: there HAVE been real documented cases of people setting fire to themselves – not just their clothes – by falling asleep or dying and dropping burning cigarettes. As described in one of the links that Paul cited:
“The flames draw on the body's fat (a flammable oil very near the skin's surface which combines with the burning clothing) to fuel the fire.” That is, the clothing acts as a wick to feed a slow long-lasting fire.

As to exploding Pintos and GM pickups, demonstrations were for the purpose of illustrating fuel leakage in crashes. Of course every crash did not result in a fire, and incendiary devices should obviously be disclosed. In an actual accident there could be natural sparks, hot exhaust, etc. to cause gas ignition. The same incendiary devices, with cars that did NOT leak fuel, would not cause instant conflagrations, so in that sense the demonstrations were valid, though flawed by incomplete disclosure.

Sheesh! How did we get from energy storage to Pintos to Trump to Liberals to SHC??? Wow!

If you bothered to actually read the facts (not LSM fiction) about exploding Fords and GM trucks, you'd find out that they don't burst into flames anymore than the average of all makes and models. That's why they always had to rig the test vehicles with an ignition source. And the tests weren't about certain vehicles that too often burst into flames, they were testing how well the passenger compartments could protect the occupants during a fire.

The P.T. Barnum types in the LSM suckered millions of viewers so well that their lies still persist to this day for anyone too lazy to bother looking for the real facts.

Ever wonder why you don't hear about Ford Explorers rolling over anymore ? There's still lots of them on the roads and not in the ditch. It wasn't a problem for the vehicle, it was a few loose nuts behind the wheel combined with LSM hype to get the suckers to tune in and watch their program.

" ……….. Sheesh! How did we get from energy storage to Pintos to Trump to Liberals to SHC??? Wow! "

Ask the guy in the mirror that question.

Even though this thread has drifted, it is nice to see both sides making good points, in a goodwill spirit.

No worries - they still sell containers of Lucas smoke in case of an electrical system leak. Works for all 6 and12 volt systems.

Better order some before the Tesla owners discover it's available !!!!

You'll win more "discussions" when you stop dueling with blank ammo.
