He's going to shoot his personal roadster into space.

I suppose the space ship is battery powered & will recharge with solar panels while wallowing around in space ?

Future Update year 2614:
After 600 years of never being profitable, Musks offspring were on their 900th failed venture and are now proposing getting heat from the center of the earth. This round of funding they are sure will make it. Mean while Peltier effect generators (Seeback generators) now can generate electricity from anything including coal and the earth is prosperous again.
The car entered Andromeda airspace and the Romulans seized it. Up to that point they were a prosperous coal/oil/nuclear based society. They were enamored by this vehicle and copied it and everybody used it for transport. Notes on solar panels/geothermal were also taken to heart. Their society became poorer and poorer and even more stupid and were soon conquered by the Vulcans who were way to smart to fall for that nonsense.

Nice CN! I would like to add that they had trouble with tribbles because they imported them as pets and no animals can be left outdoors, even in the tropics....They soon blocked all the solar arrays....

I guess they are still testing the rocket and don't want to billion dollar satellites on it but surely they could of came up with something useful like putting some food into orbit somewhere for future long term missions.

Makes sense, but that doesn't feed his over-sized ego.Richard S. wrote: ↑Thu. This is not an orbital shot, it will be to prove it has interplanetary capability.Richard S. wrote: ↑Thu. C'mon guys. he could spend all that money feeding the illegals wandering the streets of LA and would get no visibility or credit. This is marketing of the brand and image pure and simple. His cars and batteries have many competitors and now he has upped their ad campaign. Is it his ego? Yes, but who cares. Is it cost effective... hmmm, perhaps even that to. So at the high end society parties at Freetown Corners, you can announce you have a Bolt (a very nice car, IF you are in the market) and no one will care. But a Tesla 3 will generate attention. THAT is the market.

Now consider a billionaire who wants to be the first to colonize Mars. So pack that rocket with survival gear, go to Mars in a survivable part and challenge the rest of the world to join you. I can see it now. I would even bet someone is talking to Musk right now. I think it is super brilliant now I come to think of it. So send the car as a proof of concept. There is nothing useful to load the rocket with. WOW. I am slow but I am starting to get it.

WAM here. Finally, a use for an EV, ICEs won't work. Take a Tesla up there and build a road and take visitors on a sight seeing tour. All run on solar panels.

The idea is to eventually send man to mars, yes? Why not send a supply cache into orbit around Mars, food or things they may not typically be sending because it's damn expensive.coaledsweat wrote: ↑Thu. He's showboating.
