what ever its worth just moved up from flip phone to samsung 7. so far real impressed you can take pictures of motor tags blue prints or what ever youre trying to see and zoom in to see those numbers/letters crystal clear. see I don't need glasses after all! plus all the ribbing from the guys at work, mister I don't need a smart phone, like the note pad, flashlight gps etc etc.

One thing I did not see mentioned is cost. Most new smart phones cost a small fortune, in my opinion at least.
My Motorola is a nicer phone that the Samsung it replaced, and it cost far less. I use AT&T service with no contract.
This is my phone:

no matter what phone get the otter box...
Defender is my preferred case...
I use both apple and android...
I like the larger screens on the iphone plus and the Note line...
Look for the deals on the previous model just before the brandynew ones come out...
iphones seem to work better for the folks who don't want to get their inner geek going...
Androids; Samsung or Pixel seem to be loved by those whose inner geek burns bright...
You can expense out the phone and service if it is for business use...
I have my exchange mail on the phone along with texting...
Then I also get calls...
texting with pictures is my main use...
Take a picture of the computer screen that you are having issues with and send it to me via text...
best problem solver for my clients...
truly picture is worth a thousand words...

And when you roll your phone over to a newer one...
the old smart phone can become a remote...
Old phones they never die just become another tool in the house...

Not sure I hate my pixel but it can be annoying at times. As was mentioned before, there is definitely a learning curve with any new phone. 1 thing I do like on the newer phones is the talk to type features. Works great while driving and people text me.coaledsweat wrote:My son got a Google Pixel, he hates the damn thing but the battery life is incredible. $800!
+1 on the battery life. But I still need to charge it sometimes during the day. Could be due to playing games at lunch......

I'm not sure if it is the phone itself or the carrier, but the call quality really sucks at times on his phone. Other times it is clear as a bell.

Both the iPhone products and samsung products are good. I have not had a motorola in years, but they are probably good as well, as somebody else already mentioned. It is kinda like chevy, ford, dodge, if one was really better then the others would be out of business. Just your flavor of bells and whistles.
The only caveat I would say is you mentioned switching to an Apple computer. If you are going to do that then go iPhone so that things will be seamless between the 2 devices, or if you get a iPad. I would base my phone choice on the computer system I will use. I switched to apple products 4-5 years ago and found it an easy switch from Windows/android. I think the mac computer is easier than windows.
I am a landscape contractor, so I know what you mean about people being in contact with you. I refused to text for along time, but my customers pretty well demanded it, so in order to not loose sales and communicate in the manner they preferred I started doing it. I use the SIRI feature all the time.
Regarding cases I can not stand the otter box defender, the screen gets so scratched up I can barely read it. I use element case, google them, and only glass screen protectors. A bit more expensive than the otter box, but way above quality

I modified the Defender case...
Cut out plastic and use a glass screen protector...
Needed the fall protection more than the sealing...
