Virus didn't make the drive fail, time made it fail, if you have time to mess with it you could try and write zero's to the drive then run WD's diagnostics on it to see if its ok for a backup drive . Have seen the OS not want to install then write zero's to it and all is well

did ya test the memory too...
The poor drive is 7 years old...
let it go...
Dog years 7 to 1 for human years...
Hard drive years 21 to 1...
3 to 4 years and a drive is replaced before its a problem...
New drives are cheap and spindle drives are very cheap...
WD Black 6TB only $300
Samsung 850 pro SSD 512GB only $225...

Yep RAM is spot on..only running 8GB DDR3. MoBo is an ASUS M4N75TD. Processor:AMD Phenom II x4 core 955, would add more ram...BUT they have to be MATCHED rams... , MoBo is specific as to what RAM it will work and accept., took 2 tries to get ram that MoBo would accept without blue screens of death, even using ASUS recommended rams. This system I built 7 years agoCapeCoaler wrote:did ya test the memory too...

Yep I put another cheap WD spindle drive in. Seagates are plentiful...but also extremely high failure rates in less than 2 years

WD has drive tools that will test the drive. Due to it's age I wouldn't trust it for much.

Make sure you have backups in case the drive dies, use a service like Google Drive or One Drive which is cloud storage. These services will sync local files so if you have no connection to internet it's not an issue. When the computer is connected to internet it automatically saves it to the cloud when it's updated or changed. If you are using another device when you start the device it will sync the newer file to the device so it's up to date. This way you can access up to date files on multiple devices. These services also saves revisions of the file if you desire, you need to be careful with multiple devices because you can potentially cause a conflict under some specific circumstances.
One thing I should note that is important. Save at least one copy to local backup like a USB stick especially if you are only using one device because you will need the password for the cloud storage.

Use something like Keepass to manage passwords. The file is encrypted using extremely robust encryption so if someone obtains it such as they stole your computer or whatever it's useless to them.wilder11354 wrote: find old password, etc, etc...
