A couple days ago I installed AVG Free on my wife's PC running Windows Vista. It pretty much hosed the PC. Things would work for a few minutes after rebooting, then web sites stopped responding, then no applications at all would start up, Task Manager would not start, machine would not shut down except by pressing the power button. I rebooted and immediately uninstalled AVG, installed Avira in its place, and it seems to be OK now.
