Fricken Laser Beam

We finally broke down and bought a laser marker for our shop. It's too cool not to share!

That is remarkable. I can remember when the laser was first invented one article called it "a solution in search of a problem". Now the many applications are beyond the imaginings then.

HOLY *censored*!!! I thought the video was in Fast Forward mode!! That is unreal!!

I bet that'd give ya one hell of an unwanted tattoo ....

I would like to use that to mark every tool I own. :punk:

That scene always stuck in my head. We call our laser marker "the fricken laser marker". Yes its great for marking your tools.

That's one of the coolest things I've ever seen (the laser, I mean, not the Austin Powers clip.) I'm sitting here thinking of all the things that I could use that on. Cell phone cases. Tools. The cat. Could you write a nice Valentine's message on a steak and then grill it?

On a more serious note... may I ask how much that thing cost? My guess is $50,000

This one was a demo so we stole it for $45K.

Yowza! That's the coolest thing since sliced bread! I'm amazed at the distance the laser is traveling before impact.... I always thought they were very close to any surface while marking. From all I've read the laser markers are all up front cost.... I mean to say.... once you own a quality one, there's not much maintenance. By the time it needs a new anything it will have paid for itself time and time again. Congrats on the new tool!

PS... does the whole town get dim when the laser comes on?

A while ago I attended an audio convention, part of another forum, in Massachusetts. The guy that hosted the get together had a woodshop type setup with a CNC router setup. In the same building was another company that did laser...etching..I guess you'd call it. They made little plaques up from blue anodized aluminum. When burnt off it was clean aluminum. Very minute detail and extremely quick to boot. I was mesmerized.

You are correct thier isnt much to do for maintanence. Just buy it and run it. Once in a while clean the lens perhaps.
As far as power its just 110v and doesnt require any special amperage, 15amps is plenty!
It seems like it would use more power! It still amazes me.
