$175 a ton, bulk pick up prices in Holley Spring, PA on 2/21/07. All sizes. Some sizes available from two mine sources, Pine Creek or Reading. $30 flat delivery charge for up to 4 tons local delivery with a coal lift truck. Dealer was running low on some sizes and having trouble getting delivery from his breaker sources. He's only selling limited quantity to new customers. His 2006 season pricing was: April 15 - June, $160; July - August, $164; September, $168; October - March, $175. Barley prices slightly less in the off season.

Williamsport, Pa. $180.00 a ton pick-up. Can buy cheaper but this dealers coal burns much better, don't end up throwing any unburnt away.

Just had 2 tons of nut delivered in the Rochester NY Area. My first delivery from this supplier. The coal was oiled. No mess at all when it went down the shoot. $200 a ton with a $30 delivery charge. The nut burns much better in my stove than the stove coal I was burning.

I called my guy in Middletown this morning, he's out of coal and out of business. They have had trouble getting coal this year but his real issue is with the property, some legal crap.
Curses, now I've got to find another dealer.

I just called around to 4 places in Central NY (within 50 miles of Syracuse, NY).

Bagged: $250, $245, $233, $220 / ton --> ($237 / ton ave.)
Bulk: $230, $190, $185 / ton --> ($201.67 / ton ave.)

(1 Place only sells bagged.)

Considering the cost of Diesel Fuel and paying the drivers a decent wage those NY prices are excellent

Here locally and depending on the delivery guy

$120 Per Ton for Low voalatility Red Ash from the Harmony Mine
$140 Per Ton for Pea with a lot of rock in it from Lenigs Coal
$160 Per Ton for The Real Deal White Ash from Blaschak (Well worth the extra cost)

HEY coalstoves where is the local of the harmony mine Iam outside of pottsville I would be interrested in going up there to pick up a few tons for that price my price down here goes from 130-140 per ton pick up I just picked up a ton today at blasckak in ravine first time payed 140 my normal breaker is superior coal out in hegins 140 but red ash I like red more b.t.u. for me. I started with 70 lb. bags from a dealer here in Sussex County, NJ at $14.00 per bag, then had 2 deliveries of 1 ton each at $260.00 a ton.

I stopped buying from them due to the poor quality of the coal (see "cold chimney" post in the maintenance heading).

I am currently buying from a dealer in Belvidere, NJ, 40 lb. bags of Reading Anthracite at $6.19 per bag. They don't deliver up here, but loose coal picked up would be about $2.00 less per 40 lbs.

I guess it's time to get the '68 GMC 2500 running again!

I just got another pickup load of bulk Anthracite pea coal from my coal dealer. I asked him when summer prices would begin. He told me it depended on the supplier. Some have summer pricing deals some didn't. He normally has to pay the colliery 30 days after delivery. But in summer months, starting in June, he doesn't have to pay until Nov. 1. It's done to encourage summer sales. I don't know it it applies to bagged rice coal. If I lived a long way from NEPA and burned bagged coal I'd check with your local coal supplier, you might be able to get a good summertime deal.

Actually prices may increase this summer to make up for slack sales and the cost of Gas and Diesel, I don't see them coming down anytime soon.

I asked about summer pricing and the dealer said buy your coal before May as he expects a price increase then.

Just my luck!! I decided to heat with coal so I bought a used stove and I am planning on installing it this summer and now coal prices are going up. I just can't win!! No matter what I try to use for heat, when I get involved with it the price goes up. Called a supplier in western Pa yesterday and the price was $175 a ton. I guess that I will have to build my bin and buy coal before May.

Don't worry, that is cheap. I'm paying $210 a ton and expect it to go up. It will keep going up. But unless they find a way to run cars on anthracite it will always be cheaper (and warmer!) than anything else. Even at $210 a ton, I spend about 40% of what the #2 oil costs me. You made a good decision, don't fret, you'll be back here next winter with a big grin. I promise.

The summer pricing is a marketing program to encourage retail dealers to move coal in the summer. It has little to do with the rising cost of producing and delivering coal. Your retailer may or may not pass on his saving to you.
