Price Check...What's the Going Price in Your Area? 2006-07

The summer savings has dwindled over the last few years, it's really not that much. Having said that any increase is not be that much if that happens, coal prices do not fluctuate wildly like other fuels.

The summer pricing is a marketing program to encourage retail dealers to move coal in the summer. It has little to do with the rising cost of producing and delivering coal. Your retailer may or may not pass on his saving to you.

Somebody has to pay the ever increasing cost of transporting it and the cost to transport will only be increasing.

It won't go up that much, if it did the dealers wouldn't sell ANY coal to residential customers. Why shovel coal inbto a stove and lug a 20 pound ash pan out of a basement every day when for almost the same money a homeowner can just flick the switch. There has to be savings to offset the work. I'm sure the dealers will sell coal for whatever the market will bear, that is the only way to stay in business, but I think it will always have to be cheaper than oil by at least 30%, and cheaper than any fuel including wood or coal sales will diminish.

Yesterday I was working near Scranton, PA. I bought 5 -50 LB. bags for $6.00 each from a dealer in Dickson City. He charges $160.00 per ton picked up. I'll be visiting that area over the summer, I plan to pick up 1/2 ton per trip., bagged (I think loose coal in my Ford Econoline van isn't such a great idea!)

The Dealer is listed on Reading Anthracite's website, but it wasn't in the heat sealed plastic 40 lb. bags that Reading Anthracite produces. The dealer bags it on site.

It was pea and chestnut sized, it does burn well, although my stove was out this morning, it's 28 degrees here now, I must of had the draft cut down too low and my exterior masonry chimney got cold. Forecast is for 64 high/30 low tonight, so I'll light it this evening.

Picked up one ton bagged rice yesterday. $200 dollars. George

Winter is hanging on tight up here in central New York. Luckily though so is the price at my local(38 miles RT)dealer. Hes still selling for 195 a ton picked up at the yard. I bagged 670 pounds yesterday for 67 bucks and he through in a couple coal starter bags. That was Jeddo coal, which has become my new favorite. I think the smaller cracked size of the Jeddo burns better for me than the Blaschak

Just ordered coal today. $235. per ton plus $15. delivery fee. It went up ten dollars per ton since last fall. Dealer thinks it has nowhere to go but up.

I just checked the 10 day forecast and it looks like a high of 52* is 10 days out. Looks like I'm going to make a run next week. Might as well get about 6-7,000# @ $210 as it's only going up from here.

Just was quoted $253/ton for 3 tons and $238/ton 4 tons with free delivery. (did some competition spring up that I don't know about???) Dealer said price should be fairly stable - the $253 was the same as I paid last AUG.

This surprised me along with when they said coal prices here do not go up very much in the winter. On the other hand they said pellet prices were highly variable, they shot up in the winter & were going down next week.

In Lebanon County Pennsylvania, I've been quoted two prices for pea/buck anthracite coal.

$126 a ton for 23 ton minimum delivered by

$131 a ton for any tonnage by , delivered.

Awesome to be in coal country.

Lebanon county is west of Harrisburg and East of Philladelphia
