For use in Hearth model stoker? does it matter at all, I have heard all over the general forum there are better brands than others, but I want to ask deally specificaly with leasureline hearth model ...BEFORE I BUY 4 TONS OF COAL THAT CAUSES ME PROBLEMS W/ MY ONLY HEAT SOURCE!

From what I have seen at their showroom they sell Reading Anthracite. Not sure if you get that up there. However, if I were you I would find out what is available in your area and ask around as to what is the best. Where I live any coal from Reading Anthracite (Shulykill County) is by far the highest quality around. Also Coal from Hazleton, Pa such as Hazleton Shaft, or Jeddo Coal (Pagnotti) have a pretty good product too. From asking around I have heard that coal that comes out of the Wilkes Barre area really lacks in quality and to stay away from it. But you are all the way up there in Maine, so this info probably won't help.

thanks, I do have access to reading anthracite, but have heard great stuff about blashek coal which I also have access to but have to rent a truck to get, it seems to me that in a stoker brand wouldn't matter but I have no experience so is why I asking.

I used Blashek coal last season now im buring a mixture of Buckwheat and Rice .

We do not have a preference. Just try and get good rice coal.

I've burned Reading and Blaschak in my Hearth. I like the lower ash of the Blaschak, but the reading made heat too.

Have you noticed any difference in heat output while burning Buckwheat mixed in with your rice coal?

I hadn't notice a difference yet my stove has been somewhat idling during the day. I just started it up this past Sunday. I had it cranking on the initial start to almost 750* on the front face above the door it took about 3 hours to heat my house from 56* to 70*. The guy I get my coal from is selling only a mix now because he has had such a great response and when people try it they like it better than just the rice. To early in the season needs to get colder out I'll report back..

Try a bag or two of each,, you may form your own preference..

Reading bagged coal often has more variation in size, and the ocassional piece of wood, or oversize pieces of coal.. these can jam the stoker.. so be aware of this when loading the hopper.. Blaschak is more uniform in size..
