Just made a 325 mile round trip run out to Sherman. Super nice folks and worth the trip out though I felt like a popcorn kernel in a popper on the way out.

All in with rental and fuel it was bout 400 a ton. Still a huge savings this year with crazy pricing. Only local bulk supplier has gone bag only at 625 a ton…..

Sherman raised their price today with no notice to $250 a ton. I called Monday and let them know a truck would be in today, was quoted $200 a ton, what it has been for awhile now. Once on the triaxle today they told the driver the price was raised $50 a ton this morning. Sucks. Still the lowest price around, but a questionable way to do business in my opinion

Actual costs came to 374 per ton picked up. She told me the cost was going up last week when I called so I got lucky I guess at 200 a ton. Still at 250 they are the best deal around from what I can tell.

250/ton sounds real cheap to me. They held out almost 1.5 yrs longer than most of the rest at close to half the price. Remember that before going back to the others that were high from the start of this mess. I wish I had the option of going there.
FWIW the cheapest I ever got ant coal was 250/ton bagged from TSC the fall before the big increases. Cheapest Blaschak I got was 270/ton about a decade ago. Cheap heat at those prices then or now. Especially adding in the inflation of the last 2 years.

$250 a ton was the delivered rate to me 2 years ago. This might be the kick in the ass to install a couple heat pumps. I was close to doing it last year but I thought I'd wait out this price spike. Not so sure it will ever go down now. With heat pumps I could probably knock my coal usage in half, admittedly with less comfort.
Not uncommon to happen it seems. Over the years I learned to empty hopper then use synthetic light motor oil on top, sides and in front of the feed block. This frees up the fines and helps to push them out or down to the catch.Gary wrote: ↑Fri. I have had trouble in the past with fines getting under this block and it wants to seize up. There is a comment on another post stating that the rice coal on the pile has more fines than the coal going through the breaker. The lady in the scale house said she was new and I do not believe she is aware of this. She told me the breaker was empty from several trucks being loaded and I could get loaded off of the pile. Not complaining by no means, but I am concerned how this will run through my Harman this winter. Something to be aware of.

Just picked up a ton of rice this morning, still $200 per ton; said they don't plan to raise unless things get really screwy.
Note they had none in the breaker and I thought there were a ton of fines in the ground pile I got from.

Well, I am the one who reported the price increase -- get this. I called them because I was charged $250 a ton for a triaxle load Aug 31 and seeing the above prices made no sense to me.. They are charging 200 a ton for pickups and trailers but 250 for bulk loads. First time ( and last) in my life I have charged more for bulk. I guess I will be tracking down a trailer and going to get my own for next year.
