I checked the map and Mazaika is about 37 mi. and Shermans is about 38 mi. for me. The Blue Mountain on 309 is something else going towards Tamaqua in my 41 year old slant 6 truck. At least empty in that direction. Easier drive for me to go there. If they still have coal in the Spring, I might get a 1/2 or 3/4 at each to try. I've heard of a place west of Gowen city towards Trevorton that's supposedly $200 or less. I can't remember the name, but I had found a phone no. that I no longer have. That's a good ways north of Shermans each way though. I'd like to check it out sometime and see if it's just ROM or has some processing.

It's long gone now, but some guys used to like the South Tamaqua coal pockets breaker. That was the closest breaker to me along with Direnzo (RIE). 30 miles. Back when the old co Lehigh was still going, STCP used to source part of their blend with Lehigh and people spoke well of it. When they were out they couldn't get it anymore. A buddy and I hauled a half ton from there down to the Outer Banks, NC in a '52 International p/u for another guy who had just moved there and was short on wood. That was about 35 years ago He was likely the last guy to burn anthracite on Hatteras Island. That was about the 5th home he had heated with his old Riteway 37. Including Manhattan and Brooklyn. It eventually went through two hurricane floodouts and was retired.

Yes thanks Jack for the reminder. That sounded like a real fun day to me!

Used to date a woman that lived over there near Gowen city. There are a few breakers in that valley, at least there was when i used to go over to that valley There's at least 2 now... one is Lenig and Kosmer 1624 lower road Shamokin pa 17872. then there's Calvin V Lenig coal sales and that's 5860 pa 225 Shamokin PA 17872. I burned the Lenig and Kosmer coal and it was decent, the woman i dated had an Alaska stoker in her basement. was 110 a ton in 2008 lol.

I used to live in Newtown at the intersection of 209 and 25. The quickest way to Sherman or Superior from here (I live near Birdsboro now) is 422/222 to 183 to 78 to 501 etc.....10% grade at 501, my trucks don't like it loaded the toyota will be at 35 mph in second gear at the top of 501 if i put 1400 lbs in the bed. the f-250 will drink fuel and burn oil lol.
I borrowed my sons 2014 f-150 4x4 v6 and it took 501 loaded like it was not even there.

When i lived there the Hegins breaker was above us on the mountain. I could feel the ground shake when the breaker fired up every morning and they dumped the coal into the breaker. Lived there for 12 years and never burnt Direnzo coal. I was told by all the neighbors not to use it lol

Reading Anthracite is near Minersville. they are prob 350 a ton or more.

408 miles from my house to Tamaqua, if I am coming down for coal it will have to be for a big load.
