Used to date a woman that lived over there near Gowen city. There are a few breakers in that valley, at least there was when i used to go over to that valley There's at least 2 now... one is Lenig and Kosmer 1624 lower road Shamokin pa 17872. then there's Calvin V Lenig coal sales and that's 5860 pa 225 Shamokin PA 17872. I burned the Lenig and Kosmer coal and it was decent, the woman i dated had an Alaska stoker in her basement. was 110 a ton in 2008 lol.

I used to live in Newtown at the intersection of 209 and 25. The quickest way to Sherman or Superior from here (I live near Birdsboro now) is 422/222 to 183 to 78 to 501 etc.....10% grade at 501, my trucks don't like it loaded the toyota will be at 35 mph in second gear at the top of 501 if i put 1400 lbs in the bed. the f-250 will drink fuel and burn oil lol.
I borrowed my sons 2014 f-150 4x4 v6 and it took 501 loaded like it was not even there.

When i lived there the Hegins breaker was above us on the mountain. I could feel the ground shake when the breaker fired up every morning and they dumped the coal into the breaker. Lived there for 12 years and never burnt Direnzo coal. I was told by all the neighbors not to use it lol

Reading Anthracite is near Minersville. they are prob 350 a ton or more.
Yeah, I was looking at some older state lists of licensed mines, breakers and coal bank recyclers. I did see one owned by a Lenig and also the Calvin Lenig operation in that valley. I think I found the one that I was trying to remember and also saw it on a Google aerial view. Black Creek Breaker with Cameron mine. On the Lower road. I was surprised how very few licensed breakers are left.

Your route to the Hegins valley is mostly how i used to go long ago when I was in the Reading area. That climb over the Blu barrick on 501 is a good one! Many times, I encountered ice and snow squalls only on the top. Many wrecks there over the decades. My truck would be at 35 in second gear when empty  When I lived in the Hawk mountain area for 20 years I got in the habit of going over Hawk, then up 61, to 901, turn off on Deep Creek rd., if I was going to the Hegins valley, or go further and turn off on the Taylorsville mountain rd, when I was going to the Mahantango valley. All my family is gone in those two valleys, except for a cousin in Mahantango, so I don't often get there anymore. Just an occasional motorcycle ride. Tons of memories for me in that area.

I got some of Calvins coal to try as it was cheap but it has some visible rock in it. I also got some of Dale lenigs coal and i was ok ,burns up a little fast but ok. THis is the first year iv used any of their coal as my main source (Harmony)kept raising the prices.

I was talking to a guy I did a delivery to just a few miles from there. From what he said there breaker isn't heated so the only run the breaker in the warm season and stock up on all sizes and shut down for the winter. That's why they don't have rice anymore.

408 miles from my house to Tamaqua, if I am coming down for coal it will have to be for a big load.
Same here. You're farther out than I am! 310 miles / 5 hr 10 min drive. The Silverado ain't gonna pull what I need to make that trip cost effective, that's for sure! :eh:

Something like this might cut it, but doubt my checkbook opens that wide. :o

Good to know for the "ricers". Someday I want to try a half ton or so of their nut.

He refuses to go anywhere but Blaschak.

That is not a bad thing. Blaschak has good coal and their prices are very competitive.
