Searched for this topic, can't find any info, but am pretty sure it's been discussed here.
I can understand the price of oil, and other fuels going up, (given the current administration), but for the last 10 years, price per ton of coal here in New England, was about $300. Has anyone been able to justify the current 30% hike? I'd really like to hear this one. Or a link to the thread. Thanks.

Yosh,(which is Polish for "Joe" according to my Late,Great Parents!)this topic's been thoroughly peeled, diced, shredded and pulped up to death in several previous topic threads... Yeah,it's been ugly! Go back through several pages of previous topics where the title will display all the verbage you'd rather not hear! There's also a thread or two regarding lower priced Suppliers. Your problem would involve securing tonnage and shipping to you. Welcome to the current "Shitshow",My Friend!!

Basic supply and demand . Remove energy in one part of the world and the market responds. We could regulate exports but that goes against the free market principles we follow. There are some mines not shipping overseas and they should be rewarded by our patronage.

So what you're saying is because oil is so expensive, people are converting back to coal, and the supply is low? Because it's so popular? I don't see that, at least around here. I could understand the shipping/fuel costs going up, but down there in the Pa area, there isn't any shipping. Coming straight outta the mines.

From what I have seen here on the forum is our coal is being exported along with natural gas because of the problems in Europe.

You're the second person I've heard say that. After Jan 6th, 2020, I don't follow politics anymore. It's proven to be a lost cause.

We were exporting both even before the troubles in Europe but now they have increased. All the corporate profits have sky rocketed, especially the energy sector since coming out of covid so how much is warranted and how much is gouging, who knows.

My understanding from talking to some "insiders" is there is very large demand for anthracite from Europe which actually makes a lot of sense. They are willing to pay a lot for US resources because it's still less than they can get it elsewhere. The anthracite mines aren't going to have the capacity to meet such demand so you have short supply.

Personally I believe it to be short sighted. The demand from Europe is only short term. This is an excellent opportunity to get long term customers here in the US for home heating.
